《Buried City》Chapter 54

After his enlightenment, Gorger spent the last few days fighting and honing his newly devised technique. It’s pretty obvious he is very happy about it.
Gorger was one of the few undead that did not change into a Zealot class and now his Neophyte Warlock and Savage are leveling up. The Savage class only gave two skills, though they are pretty nice.
{Spellbreaker Appendages}
All body parts inflict increased damage on spells.
{Mana Leeching Natural Weapons}
Natural weapons drain mana from damaged targets.
Gorger is now developing his fighting style further, mostly using his long tongues to attack or parry magic before it can hit him. He’s getting pretty good at it, coupled with his natural bulk and his ability to eat magic he’s becoming quite the headache for mages to deal with.
Well…most of them.
Gorger shoots out his tongue, using it as both a means of attack and defense. The tongue swirls with his arm movement, the tip going for Merlin and the body of the tongue slapping an icicle away.
Merlin dashes back, he has quite a good grasp on the size of Gorger’s tongue, and weaves back just enough to be out of reach.
A mouth opens up in Gorger’s hand and a single firebolt comes out from the lamprey-teethed hole.
The firebolt leaves his hand and hits his long whip-like tongue. Gorger concentrates and causes the bolt to travel along the tongue, weakening its power but increasing its speed and accuracy.
He does the same with his other hand and tongue, creating a pincer attack.
Merlin casually punches, sending a wave of frost that blows out the firebolts. Gorger responds by spewing even more bolts from all of his mouths.
Multiple sized firebolts burn towards Merlin, some bigger than his head. He simply shoots out a giant wave of frost, winking them all out as if they were candles.
Gorger smiles and laughs.
The tongues move, weakening the cloud of frost before Gorger inhales it with all of his force.

Gorger gathers the mana in his body and then spews a large ice sphere, created from the mana he just sucked in, which is rapidly broken apart by Merlin with his {Reave}.
Yet, that was only a distraction. As soon as that ice ball started to sail on the air, Gorger used {Stomping Charge} in Merlin's direction.
Using the extra momentum of his charge he attacked and grappled him with his large tongues, which gave him enough time to get very close to Merlin.
Gorger opened his mouth, a smile evident on his face, he might be shedding tears of joy, if not for the fact that he does not have working tear glands...probably?
Yet, he forgot that he wasn’t the only one getting stronger. Merlin has also gone up in his Spell Aide class, and also stronger overall.
He activates the {Shade Mantle} of Jack o’ frost, and a huge piece of ice forms inside of his mouth and frost starts to appear on his limbs and tongues.
Merlin causes the ice to melt a bit, a single ice pillar erupts from under him, hitting his feet and propelling his body upwards, slipping through Gorger’s Hold, who tries to squeeze him down, which only increases his speed, almost like a bar of soap.
Merlin is shot upwards, way waaay upwards , all the way to the ceiling of the cave, almost 30 meters up. There he creates more ice and freezes himself against the ceiling.
Merlin takes a look around, he is quite high up after all. The fighting pit is no longer a simple large hole in the ground. It is a collection of multiple simple holes of various sizes, each an arena for my undead to hone themselves.
He looks around each pit, briefly gazing at the fights within, then he finally turns his head down to his own pit.
Gorger is staring up at him.
Merlin stares down, then lifts his hands and shoots an icicle down at him.

When both of them started fighting, Gorger would throw tantrums whenever he lost, this changed when he learned his new way of fighting. Every fight, every defeat, every missed attack and misjudged parry were simply small stones in the way of honing his wholly unique technique.
Gorger points up and starts screaming in his ghoulish language calling bullshit on the move and saying Merlin is a cheater.
Merlin points down. “I’m not a cheater! I’m still within the confines of the ring.”
Both of them keep bickering for a little while, before I put my metaphorical foot down.
“Alright you two, I think you should ask the ruler of this place.“ I say, through my voice box.
Both of them turn their heads to the same direction, and soon all the other fighters in the pits do the same, stopping their brawls for a second.
Even the fighters in the pit can see the huge throne of bone, and sitting atop of it, Stinger.
She has become the de facto leader and strongest fighter of the pits, she is uniquely suited for it, enemies she can’t overpower, she can ring out.
Funnily enough she has more trouble winning against Gorger than Merlin, since Merlin is so much easier to ring out.
Stinger for her part lets the question hang in the air for a moment, then simply gives a wave with her hand.
“Ha! See?” Merlin immediately says.
Gorger simply frowns at him.
“Admitting defeat?” Merlin says, with a deliciously smug voice.
Gorger frowns harder.
Looking around I see that the fights have yet to restart, most combatants looking at the ceiling and wondering how this will change their fights, if at all.
I myself am quite content. I can’t help but think back to that wyvern, wondering if Merlin and Gorger could now hold it off by themselves…
I don’t think so, still they have progressed quite a bit. Maybe I should start a new expedition to the outside again, find some enemies to test my undead again?
Red lines appear all over my dungeon, like bleeding crimson lights they shine for a bit and then expand.
Demon Invasion!
A Challenger Has Come!
Seriously? Ugh, whatever, let's just quickly deal with it.
I see a large red gash appear on the fighting pits, from it a huge dark red demon comes out.
The being has a simple humanoid body, two arms, two legs and a head. Except that this head has four eyes , two large horns and huge sharp teeth. The body is scaled, pieces of bone growing in plates all over it, giving the torso further protection. It also carries an oversized two-handed sword in one hand.
The creature looks around, its eyes stopping for a second on Gorger.
“What a quaint little place.” The thing says with a gravelly voice.
Great, it can talk too.
The creature points its blade towards Gorger, eyes glowing orange. “I shall kill you first, warlock.”
Gorger stares at the sword, which is taller than him, and then the demon, which is taller than the sword.
He looks up at Merlin, who catches Gorger staring at him.
“Oh, no please. He’s all yours, he’s too much for a cheater like me.”
“Hmph, one more little coward will make no difference.” Saying so the large demon swings its sword towards Merlin A huge wave of fire explodes from the sword melting his ice and causing him to fall down.
Before Merlin can hit the floor he shoots out a cold wind, decelerating his body and letting him fall on his feet.
Merlin then slips on a wet patch in the floor and falls head first into the floor. He quickly gets up and turns to Gorger, pretending nothing happened.
“Alright. I shall help you.”

Old Riding Author Lunatic Asylum
Just off the A19, in the dark, incomprehensible lands known as Yorkshire, there lies a town. A town where shadow-silent alleys glint with the secret hunger of knives. Where blood soaks the chipboard window shutters of forsaken terraces stretching off into the night. Where the smog-choked air rattles with the depraved laughter echoing out from clubs that can only generously be described as post-apocalyptic. Well, that’s Middlesbrough. But down the A19 a bit (an impossibly long way down, actually) there lies another town: Raughnen, in the ancient, forgotten Old Riding. It is an equal match in muggery and thuggery alike. It also has magic spells and pointy wizard hats. And now, across the miles and across all sensibilities, a pretty nasty power (a magic one) calls out for its pretty nasty counterpart (a decidedly unmagic one): a proper sound Boro lad. Nothing good can come of it. This is a collection of one novella and four connected short stories: I. A Yorkshire Summoning II. Old Riding Day Trip (the novella) III. Heaven is a Parmo IV. Death on the 66 V. Death on the 257 In total, this comprises 34 chapters totalling around 35,000 words, so try not to worry. It will be over relatively quickly. There are three more short stories with more tenuous links to the core collection: Rush, Paper Round and Scenario 79: Sausage Fingers, all of which can be found in my collection Short Records of Misadventure. Reading these may allow you to make more sense of certain parts of the story, if any sense is to be made at all. NOTE: There are instances of prejudice and discrimination within these stories, including elements of sexism and ageism, which are purely the thoughts and actions of the characters involved and which certainly do not reflect my own views on these matters. ANOTHER NOTE; A WARNING, PERHAPS: This can get a bit weird. In less than 150 pages, we have four viewpoints, first and third person narratives, and a completely disjointed plot with lots of gaps, dead ends and no real resolution. Also ZERO lunatic asylums. It's all a bit odd. If that sort of thing isn't your cup of tea, which it most likely isn't, it might be best to move on now.
