《Tides Of Protomis》99 - The Final Untamed

Tides Of Protomis XCIX(99)
Arctaius flew over the city that had become his home, observing the battles that took place across the city. With the varied size and power of the demons, some took much more powerful weaponry to eliminate. Yamato's airfleet had since been called in to handle the situation. A large creature, who almost resembled some sort of armored sphere, with eight openings lining its shell, extended tendrils from Said openings, before beginning to weave them across the city destroying anything that lay within its reach, whether that be buildings, or ships that got too close. Arctaius was quick to intervene in the battle, increasing his speed, until he'd appeared in front of the demon. It noted his appearance almost immediately and attempted to swipe him away as well. But, the youth handily eluded every attempted strike. Before he put a hand forward, firing off a ray of hot plasma, which destroyed it almost immediately, creating a light that seemed to draw the attention of the surrounding demons.
Their attacks paused even if temporarily. But this much would prove to be their undoing. Within one of the many ships, a white-haired man stood from his seat, extending his arm, as he uttered his command.
"Don't just sit there, They're distracted, fire!"
They acted upon these orders with very little delay. Sigma Particle beams flew across the sky, as well as railguns, piercing through, and disintegrating the demons respectively. To Arctaius, it seemed like taking care of the… Ball creature had helped in containing the situation, but something told him that wasn't the demon he was informed about. Nor were any of the ones currently being cut down by the warships.
"But that raises the question, where is it…?"
His question did not go unanswered for long… within moments, much of his work in ensuring the fleet's survival was undone, as a white flash sped across his. Line of sight. Piercing many of the fleet's ships, causing them to explode, as their reactors went off, sending what little remained as superheated debris, crashing into the ground. Had they not been so far above the city, the damages, without a doubt, would have been worse… Eventually, the creature stopped his movement, and now was directly in Arctaius' sights. What he observed was a large, bipedal bulky demon, with fur of white. A long snout protruding from its head. One could say, it bore some resemblance to a polar bear…
The two simply floated in their respective places, eying each other for some time. Until, the same idea came to both of their heads… Be the first to make an attack. Acting on their strategies, the two charged forward, with Arctaius launching a right hook, and the creature striking as well. However, these two attacks clashed between them, sending a shockwave into the city around them, their pure physical prowess showcased by this alone. The two did not stop there however, with arctaius pulling back, and shortly dashing to the creature's left, launching a strike at the side of its head. But it was quick to weave around the strike. Or rather, what it thought was the strike. Arctaius' fist quickly receded, as he zipped to the right, launching another strike, which was blocked, with no small amount of effort.
"There you are… The human known as Arctaius Corde. Prepare yourself, you shall feel the power of the strongest untamed, Maritimus…"

"So that’s what you call yourselves… That is, if you’re connected to the other 4 that appeared."
Maritimus suppressed his urge to growl at the human for so casually noting his now deceased… allies, so to speak. Instead, choose to continue speaking.
"Correct… and let it be known, I'll pay you back for taking them out. I will not go down easily." He stated, with a tinge of venom in his voice.
The two retreated, and stepped back into their melee shortly after. Maritimus attempted to carve through Arctaius with a swipe of his paw, but the man evaded it. Ducking underneath, and slammed his fist into the demon's stomach. The demon returned the favor, jabbing his fist into his cheek, creating distance between them. Before, he swipes his paw once more, grazing Arctaius' skin, but ultimately, doing no lasting damage. As he attempted to swipe again, the youth ducked, taking hold of the creature's arm, and slamming his fist into his stomach once more. Which, the creature most definitely felt, but, like his other attacks, it was not enough to keep the creature down. Maritimus leaned back, before slamming his head into Arctaius', forcing him to release his grip.
Their melee was shortly continued by the two reeling back, continually building up energy, before releasing it all at once, their fists shooting forward, and slamming into one another. The resulting force sending overpressure outward, even more so than their initial attack…
The two fighters stared at each other, intensity in their eyes, as they pulled their fists back, and began to launch a volley of strikes. A constant stream of punches, and counterpunches, as they attempted to pierce through what looked to be an iron defense, by looking for any gaps. With the other attempting to punish such reckless actions, by use of their fists.
Eventually, Maritimus tried to break the deadlock, raising his paw, and attempting to slice Arctaius once more. But Arctaius dodged to his right, hitting his gut with three more punches. But the demon took the chance to grab hold of his arm. Arctaius proceeded to do a lightning quick maneuver, using the arm as a leverage point, and flipping over the demon's shoulder, much to his surprise. An elbow was jabbed into the small of his back, shaking his frame. But the youths opponent reared in boom soon afterward, cutting him across his shoulder.
Shortly, the trading of blows resumed, as attempts to finally land a strike with lasting effect continued. But the two only found that their opponent was making sure to prevent such a thing from happening. Whether they were blocked, countered , or thrown off course, no punch landed as it was supposed to. But even so, the two continued their melee, by no means ready to back out.
Part B
As the melee continued, Maritimus' Mind began to drift, to the time before he had arrived in this realm, and began to battle its denizens. To the reason he was here in the first place.
Demon Realm - 400 years ago
Within the demon realm, it was widely known that the only form of law, if that concept was even known to them, was sheer power. This was no different among the Khashevet, a species of demon which had gained some similarities to some species on earth, though this much was obviously unknown to them.
At their height, there were tens of thousands, it was also during this time, that the demon known as Maritimus, was but a youngling. Though they all inhabited the same region, there was very little in terms of actual contact between the Khashevet, and they mostly stayed isolated from each other. The one known as Maritimus changed that not by having any want for unity, but by his enjoyment of battle. After first killing another demon known as Pantherus, he continued to gain infamy. Eventually, being joined by the one known as Lupus.

Then, there was the Shark Khashevet, Charchadon, and Rosemarus… Though, they would not reach their current state as the untamed, until they found an old member of their species, who had some influence within the group, though they were mostly a cabal with equal members, something which wasn't common in the least. The group known as the untamed took any opponent, and defeated whatever was in front of them, until, that day, where the Khashevet Died….
A demon known as Maleggan had made his arrival, and killed most of the members of the species, who he didn't find useful, or outright refused to join him. That much, too no surprise, included this group.
"First… that maleggan defeats us and ends our century-long winning streak, and has the nerve to force us into his forces. Then, the ones I came here with all die in battle, And then this human manages to rival me?... I will allow this no more." As Maritimus thought, he began to open his maw, with the purge rage he felt, finally starting to get to him.
"This humiliation, it shall end here!!!" He exploded.
No sooner did the speed of his repeated strikes increase. Eliciting a growl as the paws began to whizz toward Arctaius. The latter attempted to deny the demon any more strikes, being well aware of the fact that more damage would be done if he hit. Ducking under a jab, and eluding an attempt to mangle him, He lunged forward, grasping the Creature's Torso, and taking control of the battle, even if temporarily. Arctaius' well practiced grappling served him well. But Maritimhs had the same idea, attempting to grab hold of Arctaius, and dig his claws into him. However, the youth reacted faster, beginning to spin the creature mid-air. The forces of the revolutions further increased, and increasing, until he let go, heaving Maritimus into the ground. But his onslaught did not end there, he flew to the ground, and landed directly below. Taking his preferred stance, and waiting until the demon got into his range, he released a punch, the sound of the impact thundering throughout the area, as the demon was sent back into the sky. Arctaius followed once more, appearing above him, as he shouted his next technique.
"Solis pulsar!!!"
The flash of golden light flashed forth, toward Maritimus. Who at this point, had begun to move once more. Dashing away from one, and Evading another. Soon enough, a volley of rays now coiled through the sky, as if a meteor storm had passed overhead. His opponent opted to keep advancing, even as the Plasma singed his fur. Eventually, he reached Arctaius once more and sent forth a jab. Though the man attempted to shield himself, his guard was torn asunder, sending the youthbounding upward. Maritimus gave chase, and took the opportunity to strike once more. But his opponent shifted his body forth to meet the impact head on, somewhat lessening the damage he tllm
Much to the demon's surprise. After all, what he'd just seen was barely even known to most humans on earth, let alone the denizens of the demon realm. Arctaius
"It took some time… But I have some of the fundamentals down. If nothing else, I was able to incorporate it into fighting style. Though, I don't plan to learn anymore, it’s not like I could, not many people even know what cessatempes is, after all."
Arctaius launched another fist. But the demon managed to stop this as soon as it was fired out. Leaving him unprepared for the kick that came swiftly afterward. Which made the demon lower his guard for just long enough. No sooner did a barrage of strikes follow. Staring at his head, but gradually, moving to his torso, the attacks left indentations on his fur. That was until, Maritimus had enough, baring his teeth and grabbing hold of Arctaius' arm. But he quickly drove an elbow into the offending arm, forcing him to release his grip. But he was swiftly grabbed once more, before his opponent began to fly off, with him held In a death grip. From a distance, it was something that only resembled a white-yellow star, shooting across the sky. Of course, this didn't go unnoticed. Many of North Shima High's students observed this in the airships which came to pick them up.
" What was that?" Asami inquired. Something, which only led to Akashi shrugging beside her.
*I’m really not sure…"
Elsewhere, a certain violet haired girl, who'd just returned to the city, watched as the light flew past as well.
"That had to be Arctaius…"
Alarick himself had been in transit to the city, carrying the two known as Yuji, and Emi in each arm. While the latter two looked on in awe, Alarick simply raised an eyebrow, knowing full well what the source of the Golden luminance was.
" Just where are they going?"
Soon enough, arriving at Alarick's side, was Zhao Lei, gaining the former's attention.
"Looks like he isn’t having any luck either…" Though he noted the children Alarick carried with him, one of which, the boy, seemed to be especially excited as he stared with him, the monk simply waved hello as he looked away, thinking nothing of it, for now.
In the Hasegawa Academy, the Silver Lions, as well as the students, still stood in the training field. Apparently, reviewing their performance in the previous battle, which was high, considering the unexpectedness of the invasion. Notable as well, were the members of the holy order sprinkled in, and inspecting the bodies of deceased demons, which hadn't disintegrated. The members of the silver lions, as well as the students all sensed the proto-humans approach, and watched for some time as he went by.
"Well, there he is…" Yua noted.
"So he's fighting these demons as well, I'm not surprised. Well, I'm sure he doesn't need our help." As Watanabe spoke, he returned his attention to the masses of students… All the while, Maritimus and Arctaius continued their trip, in complete silence.
"Tch. I don’t know where we’re going, but… Depending upon that, I may just be able to cut loose…"

Tales From the Terran Republic
We tried, you know… We really did. We tried so hard to be… better… We actually were better once. No, seriously. We were enlightened, generous, peaceful… Stop laughing! We were! We were peaceful, dammit! No, I’m not “tugging your winglets.” It’s true! Look, if you’re going to be like that, I’ll just push the launch button right now. See ya, don’t wanna be… Oh, you ARE interested after all? Ok. Hey, I just got word that your captain will be ok. We were able to get him into a med pod quick enough… Of course, we tried to save him. Just what sort of people do you think we are?... Now that was harsh… completely accurate, mind you… but harsh. Anyway, like I was saying, we were a prosperous, peaceful people, and war had been nothing but a distant memory for over five hundred years before it happened... Before Yellowstone happened! You don’t mean to tell me that you didn’t know about that… massive supervolcano? Blew the Hell out of our planet? Two years where nothing grew?… Anyway, that’s what started it, the Sol Wars… Oh, you have heard about those, huh? Well, needless to say, all that enlightened, generous, and peaceful didn’t exactly make it through the two years of complete famine and the wars that followed… Maybe it’s more accurate to say the enlightened, generous, and peaceful among us didn’t survive… (laughs)… You’re right. It does explain a lot, doesn’t it? Probably for the best, though. “Enlightened” and “peaceful” aren’t really all that useful out here in the galaxy at large, are they? That reminds me; thanks for the ship. You guys did a great job with this one. Oh, don’t be like that. At least it was us what got you and not one of the really messed groups like the Harlequin or the Black Angels. We’re just going to take your shit. It could be worse… trust me... Well, anyway, we loaded the life pods down with some good food, and you guys can drink alcohol, right? We put in a couple of fifths in there, too. It’s about forty percent ethanol, so be warned. Most species will want to dilute that. We’ll drop your wounded off somewhere safe once they are stable. Your fleet patrols this area fairly regularly, and we’ll drop the distress beacon right before we jump… Well, It’s been fun and no hard feelings, right?… Oh, you want to know some more? Sure. I got time to kill… Let me tell you about this one pirate and her crew. They’re Terran scum, but they are still… Why do we hate the Terrans? Hoo Boy… How much time you got? *** It’s the thirty-second century, and humanity is now part of a galactic civilization comprised of hundreds of worlds. Humanity has been savaged by natural disaster and war and has been fractured into several separate populations, all of which loathe each other (some things never change). This is a gritty drama-driven rambling tale that swings between action, drama, horror, and plenty of very, very dark comedy. Warning: contains adult situations, absolutely horrible language, bathroom humor, implied ultra-violence, actual ultra-violence, drugs, alcohol, pirates, mercs, xeno prostitutes, moral ambiguity, deranged AI's with identity issues, giant commie space slugs, and a poor little frog girl who just wants to sell coffee. Updates twice weekly on Tuesday and Friday. *** Note: This story can get rough. Those warning tags? They aren't for show. I recently received a review and as a result I want to make one thing clear. Portraying something is NOT endorsing it! Many "heavy" topics are touched upon and just because a character says or does something does not imply that the author feels the same way. I selected the "Anti-Hero Lead" and "Villainous Lead" tags for a reason. Rule number one of this story is "no good guys". A good description of the story is, "bad people doing bad things to worse people". There are a few good characters, here and there, but they are the exception to the rule. If you want a hard-hitting, exciting, gritty sci-fi story that doesn't pull any punches, or shies away from "difficult" concepts, welcome! If you are set on a pure and noble knight that runs around and slays conveniently evil monsters and rescues totally innocent princesses... or your sensibilities are easily offended... You're not going to be happy with this one.

The Errant Otherworlder Watanabe
“In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death, taxes and trucks whom transport men to other worlds.” Meet our titular protagonist Haruto Watanabe, a man who has all the markings of a good protagonist for a generic portal fantasy story. As an overworked office worker, to escape from the grips of crippling capitalist alienation, he had taken up to reading many stories where young men like him were transported to other worlds and enjoyed their lives at a most leisurely pace. Armed with genre-awareness and (what he believes to be) a marketable personality which would make him an easy audience self-insert, he longed for the day the isekai express would take him to his long-awaited adventure to another world. When the fateful day came, where the fair yet harsh mistress that is the fabled truck took Watanabe on one last date to the other side, he was most ready to escape his previous life, ready to embark on an errant so great he’d be most overpowered, his heroics so exceptional and his harem so vast that they would barely fit ten or twenty volumes of an overly long novel made by a desperate author looking for quick cash. Lo and behold however, Watanabe instead found himself in a low fantasy world which lacked severely in the department of any game-like systems, cheat skills or easily charmed damsels in distress. In a setting so antithetical to his established genre savviness or any attempts at power fantasy, how will a man like Watanabe, lacking in strength, wits and courage, manage to survive in a land most foreign to him? This is my first time trying to share to the wider world what I’ve written, and I hope you’ll enjoy reading the errantry of Watanabe as much as I enjoy writing about them. I'll be posting one chapter per week on Sundays, along with extra chapters whenever I get the chance to write more than usual.
