《I Died and Got Summoned to Another World as a WHAT?!?!》Ep. 709 The Islands Part 18

The raptors target the ankles and legs of the t-rex and inflict several deep wounds. The t-rex tries to retaliate, but the raptors dodge its bites and continue attacking. An adult t-rex would be able to fight even against this many raptors, but the youngster stands no chance.
By the time the t-rex realizes this and tries to run, it is already far too late. The wounds on its legs are already serious enough that it has trouble moving, no way can it outrun the raptors. The only thing that could save it now is if its parents showed up, but that doesn't happen.
Its wounds cause it to misstep and fall over onto its side, at that point it is done for. The t-rex makes a last futile struggle but in the end it falls silent and the raptors begin eating it. Throughout the fight I couldn't tear my eyes from the raptors, the way they moved was hypnotic.
The movies had it completely wrong, not once did any of the raptors jump to use their claws. They fought more like wolves, darting in and out to bite at weak points. To my surprise, there was an eight raptor all along that didn't join the fight.
It just stayed back and watched, it also kept an eye out for anything that might interfere. I only know this because the one time I moved a little it turned to look at me. That was the only reason I was even able to spot it, the raptors really are terrifying.
A pack like this would tear me apart in seconds, it would be too fast for me to even use my magic. At my current size I wouldn't be able to put up much resistance, even with healing spells. Then again, if I have time to prepare and set some traps, maybe I could deal with them.

Of course, it would be much better to just avoid them all together and not fight them. So far, other than keeping an eye on me, they have not paid any attention to me. That should mean they don't see me as a threat or worth chasing after.
It might be a different story if I was on the ground where they could reach me. To them I would only be a snack, but they would probably still eat me if given the chance. The only time I might be safe is when they have a full meal already, like the t-rex.
However, I don't plan to test that theory, the only reason I haven't already left is curiosity. Since I have seen how they move and hunt, my curiosity is now satisfied. So, I start moving away from them, still staying in the trees, but I am being watched.
The raptor that didn't participate in the fight is watching me as I move away. It just watches, nothing else, but it is still a fairly uncomfortable feeling. One I am happy to shake off once I move out of the raptor's line of sight.
I make a big circle around their position before returning to following the river. It isn't long before I stop and hide again, this time from two adult t-rexes who are drinking from the river. I guess it is time to find out if the movies are right and if not moving will keep me safe.
As I sit frozen on a branch one of the t-rexes lifts its head, I am less than a foot away from it. Its eye is almost as big as I am and is currently staring right at me, so much for not moving. Luckily, the t-rex chooses to ignore me, it would seem I am not worth its time.

That isn't too surprising since I would not even be a mouthful for the t-rex. Once the two of them are done drinking they move off into the jungle and I can finally take a breath. I wait a couple of minutes to make sure they have moved off before I move a muscle.
Exploring this island is a lot more dangerous than I thought it was going to be. While I am glad that Brightfire and Nala are currently safe, I am starting to wonder if we should just leave the island. It isn't worth risking the two of them just to satisfy my stupid curiosity.
However, since I have already come this far, I may as well finish what I started. The fact that the river flows down into the middle of the island has me curious. I want to know where all the water is going, is it going into another lake, or somewhere else?
Since the island is shaped the way it is, the water can't flow out naturally. Either it is contained in a lake or it is going underground, those are the only options I can think of. However, if it is a lake, then it should have been big enough for me to see it from higher ground.
The fact that I didn't see a lake, and still can't, makes me think the water is going underground. As long as I can see where the water goes and satisfy my curiosity on that point, I won't mind leaving the island. So, I continue following the river by jumping from tree to tree, heading for the center of the island.
When I finally reach the end of the river, I find I was right about the river going underground. Although, it would be more accurate to say that it falls into a bottomless pit. Seeing no dinosaurs around I drop down out of the tree and run over to take a closer look.
The hole is circular with a total of three rivers running into it, it looks to be about a half mile across. When I reach the edge and look down I don't see a bottom to it at all. I am seriously tempted to go down and see where it goes, all that water has to be going somewhere.
This was obviously a volcano at some point, but that alone wouldn't explain all that water vanishing. If it was a sealed volcano then it would have filled up and overflowed long ago. So, there has to be somewhere for the water to go, I just can't imagine where it might be.
The problem is, how to get down and take a look? I could shapeshift and fly down as an eagle, but if it takes more than ten to fifteen minutes I will be in trouble. Unfortunately, my wings still haven't grown enough for me to fly in my normal form.
My claws can easily pierce the rock, meaning I could climb down, but that would take a long time. It is already getting close to sunset and I really don't want to worry Brightfire or Nala. The smart thing to do would be to ignore my curiosity and just head back to the cave.
That is totally what I should do and so I turn my back on the pit to head back to the cave. However, after a single step I stop and I just can't manage to force myself to take another. My entire body is frozen as I wage a war in my mind against my curiosity.
