《The Alteras Games: World Jumper Book 2》Chapter 16

Jet stood in a waiting room at a hotel. Tija had asked him to wait while she got a room. He didn't feel right having her pay for a room and not helping. But she had insisted to the point she had tears roll down her cheeks. So Jet gave in and let her. He wasn't too sure how he attracted these odd women.
"Hey Ford, we're in room eight hundred and eight." Tija waved Jet towards what looked like an elevator.
A thought hit Jet like a punch to the face as he walked over. "We will have separate beds, right?"
"No, is sharing a bed going to be a problem? You don't have any money, so don't be so picky." Tija crossed her arms, glaring at him.
Jet took a step back, ready to run away. "Yes, it will be a problem. So I'll go and sleep in the forest outside of town."
Tija's eyebrow raised. "Oh, after I went out of my way to help you."
Jet sighed as he looked at the woman. "Your screwing with me, aren't you?"
Tija held her mouth, trying to stifle a laugh. "You should see the look on your face." After she got done laughing. "Don't worry. We have separate beds."
Jet thought he should walk away now. He could walk the rest of the way to Delon City. Another crazy woman was not what he needed. Too bad, while he considered all of this, Tija grabbed his arm, pulling him into the elevator. Giving up, Jet decided to get some rest. "We leaving first thing in the morning?"
"No, we will eat breakfast in the morning first. It comes with the room." Tija said.
Jet nodded at her since, back on planet Earth some hotels did the same. Of course, he just realized that the hotel looked one story outside, and they were on the eighth floor. "Tija, do you know what a skyscraper is?"
"Well yeah, we're in a skyscraper." Tija smiled.
Jet sighed and decided that words were wrong here. When they got to the room, he decided that hotels were all the same except that the t.v. was on and Lord Joy was doing a speech. Taking a quick look around, he found a remote. But when he tried to turn it off, nothing happened. "Batteries must be dead." He frowned.
"Nah, any time Lord Joy does a speech, the television won't shut off. Luckily you can still mute him." Tija rolled her eyes.
Jet looked at her questioningly. "You don't like him, do you?" His eyebrow raised.
"Oh no, I love him just like I'm told," Tija said sarcastically while pointing at her ear.
Jet took the hint that it wasn't a good idea to talk about Lord Joy. "I only see beds. Where is the bathroom? So I can take a bath."
"Ah, the facilities are on the second floor. This isn't a three-star hotel where each room has facilities." Tija hopped to her feet, walking over to one of her bags. "You head up first. I need to grab a few things first."

Jet shrugged and walked out of the room. When he got up to the second floor, basement level two, he had no idea where to go. Looking around, he found some stalls with toilets. What he couldn't find out was which were for male or female. After a few minutes, he gave up and waited for Tija, which didn't take her long to show up.
"What are you standing around for?" Tija asked as she entered.
"Lost." Jet didn't feel like saying anything else.
Tija shook her head. "Follow me." Jet followed her to a separate room which was full of lockers. "I brought some dye remover for your hair."
Jet smiled and pointed at his hair. "This is my natural hair color."
Tija looked at Jet with skepticism. Walking over to him, she pulled out one of his hairs, root and all. "Huh, your hair isn't dyed."
"Well, that was rude. Should ask before pulling
on someone's hair." Jet rubbed the spot where the hair used to be.
"Don't be a baby Ford. It was just one little hair." Tija blew the hair out of her hand. She walked to the wall to look at a sign. "Looks like the bath is unisex right now. Are you bashful?"
"No," Jet said as he took off his clothes and walked to the bath.
Tija couldn't help but stare at him as he went to the bath. "What's with all those scars?" She whispered to herself.
Jet thought the water was too cold as he stepped in. When he sat down, he noticed a couple across from him staring. He waved to them, and they waved back. Leaning back, Jet closed his eyes to relax and go to his world.
When Jet opened his eyes, he was standing on a grass plain. Taking a quick look around, he found Alex sleeping. Walking over to her, he laid a hand on her head. "When you going to wake up?" He didn't expect an answer and didn't get one. Sitting down next to Alex, he unconsciously petted her on the head. "Get well, my friend."
Jet made his way around the small world in thought. "What happens if I walk off the world?" Without thinking, he tried to step off but moved back. It wasn't that he couldn't step off. He felt that he couldn't leave the part of the land he was on. He had no idea how long he stood on the edge before noticing the ground expanding. It was not noticeable to the eye, but he could feel it expanding. Then he saw something else. "What is lighting the place?" There was no sun, as far as he could tell. He stared off into the completely white vastness until something tickled his mind.
"Wake up." Tija punched Jet on the arm.
"I'm not asleep. My eyes are closed." Jet opened his eyes to look at Tija. He noticed more people in the bath now, and all were looking at them. "Tija, you're being too loud. Everyone is staring at us."

"They're looking at you." Tija pointed at her hair. "I barely got in. I was working on removing the dye out of my hair."
Jet looked down at himself and frowned. "Is it the missing arm?"
"That and the ridiculous amount of scars." Tija sat down next to Jet. "Water isn't warm enough. Do any of you care if I turn up the heat?"
"It's broken. Been like that since the last time I stayed here two weeks ago." One of the others complained.,
"Huh, oh well, nothing can be done about it." Tija moaned as she sank into the water. "Ford, wash my hair."
Jet frowned as he looked at Tija, then pointed at his missing arm. "You know how hard that would be?"
Tija shrugged and turned around. "Oh, I can see the arm hasn't been missing long. This will make good practice."
Jet being his unthinking stupid self got an idea in his head. The water moved around him and created a makeshift arm. It only took him a few seconds to learn how to use it properly. Then he realized everyone was looking at him. "What?"
"Oh, so you had beaten the Alteras Games before and entered the Tower." Tija looked at his water arm. The other nodded in agreement. It didn't take long for all the others to leave the bath.
"Sorry, is there something wrong with having magic?" Jet berated himself for using his magic in front of people.
"Nah, ignore the others that left. But that explains all the scars. You must love to fight. How many times have you fought to enter the Tower?" Tija asked curiously.
"I don't love to fight. Fights seem to find me." Jet didn't want to answer her question.
"Well, the bath is too cold. Wash my hair so we can work on dying it." Tija threw a bottle of shampoo at Jet.
Jet shrugged it off and washed her hair. After they had done everything, he helped her dye her hair, and she dyed his. Jet had no clue how but the dye made his hair look like silver. It even had a reflective surface like metal. "This is the weirdest dye I've ever seen."
"Yeah, it's ultra-expensive. But now we match." Tija pointed at the mirror.
"Yeah, we match now." Jet looked at the ecstatic woman. Tija's smile reached ear to ear.
Once they got some sleep, they got on their way early in the morning. Jet would've liked to have got more rest, but Tija could saw logs with her snoring. "You know you snore?"
"Hmm, oh, that's just rude. But yes, I do snore." Tija stuck her tongue out at Jet. "You can sleep while I drive."
Jet did just that and went to sleep. Unfortunately for him, he woke up a second later with Tija poking him on the arm. "What?"
"Sorry to wake you, but we're about to go through a time bubble," Tija said.
"Time bubble?" Jet asked.
"Yeah, we're about to go into a slower-moving time zone. Not sure what happened to this time zone. It's at the normal time. Used to move faster here." Tija tapped her chin in thought.
Jet stayed quiet on that matter. "Do I need to be awake for the time zone change?"
"You haven't traveled much if you want to sleep through a time zone change." Tija looked at Jet skeptically.
'Yeah, a time zone change on Earth doesn't affect people.' Jet thought as he before he responded. "Let's just say that this will be my first time in a moving vehicle."
Tija's face had a pityingly look now. "Oh well, this will be a lot of fun. For me. I'd get ready if I were you and try not to puke in my car." Before Jet could even ask what she meant, she killed the engine and rolled through some warning signs.
Jet felt the change, and it didn't affect him at all. He had felt it when he had been dragged to the mines. It didn't feel as awkward this time around. Of course, time was back to normal instead of being slower. So he figured that it helped with going between time zones. "It's not as bad now."
"Huh, I thought that would've affected you more. With the speed of a vehicle, it makes some real sick." Tija restarted the vehicle.
"Why did you shut the car off?" Jet asked.
"Duh, with all the moving parts, it would've exploded on the way through." Tija shook her head.
Jet tried to remember the way to the mines. There had been a spot where the van they were in shut off and rolled. Jeff had through up during that time, and so did a few others. It didn't affect him the same, apparently. Tija went over a hill, and Delon City came into view. Jet's jaw dropped at the sight. The city was built in a giant circle and looked like a city with skyscrapers. But what Jet didn't understand was what was with the massive tower in the center of the circle. It looked like there was a continuous stream of lightning hitting the tower. There were two smaller towers on each side, creating dark clouds. Jet wanted to know how it all worked.
"World Jumper, what do you seek?"
Jet looked around and found everything frozen in place. He looked back at the tower, and the red gem in the center seemed to be glowing. A beam of light seemed to be coming from the gem and shining down on him. He thought about the question for a while before saying. "I'm seeking answers." He wanted to know why the tower had been built and possibly a way to take it down.
"If answers are what you seek. Then knowledge is what you need."

Many Minded
Synopsis: Issa Pyxis, Spacer orphan and illegal heretic, graduated from living on the streets to running with a gang years ago, but now it looks like that’s all going to change. Her inheritance, more specifically who—or what—she is, is catching up with her, and on a planet with the Emperor’s inquisitors slinking around in every shadow, nowhere is safe and no one can be trusted. What will she do? A cyberpunk story about identity, loneliness, covert infiltration, evil dystopias, and much more! Features: - Cyborgs and cyberpunk galore - This is indented to be somewhat “rational” and “hard” Sci-Fi story - Original Fiction however parts of my worldbuilding are inspired by other Sci-Fi stories (duh) Rationale: The future is cool, AIs are kickass, and questions about consciousness are simultaneously existential and yet unanswered. To me, this story is a vehicle for exploring these topics, and also, I wanted to write a story where the protagonist was unafraid of themselves and where their self is more like a git-repo than a meat computer. Disclaimer: This story primarily takes place in what we’d describe as a “cyberpunk dystopia” with some extra technocracy, autocracy, and religious fervor thrown into the mix, so there will be some “grittiness” in this story. Caveat emptor. Also, [insert your favorite boilerplate “views expressed” disclaimer here]. I shouldn’t need to say this, but the main character and other characters in my story can be wrong on occasion (gasp!) and the way they view the world isn’t always objective truth (if such a thing even exists) nor do their views and opinions necessarily reflect the views of me, the author. Two And A Half Deadmen
Silver-Spruce is a very strange and very haunted town. Ghosts inhabit its buildings and walk its streets. Some of them friendly and sane. Some of them not so much. Alder helps ghosts. Helps them fulfill their last requests so they can move on to whatever comes next. Sometimes the ghosts aren't so friendly and have to be moved on by force. Alder does that as well. And he's gotten rather good at it too. After a particularly rough exorcism, he finds himself following a strange ghost to a local tourist attraction. And while Alder never means to find himself caught up in chaos, monsters, magic, and mayhem always seem to have a way of finding him. You want more specifics for what you're reading? Here you go: This is Urban-fantasy but a little bit of a different spin. Often the protagonists in such stories tend to be the bigger fish in their world, or at least far from small fry. Be they legendary boogie men or badass wizards (which is in no way a bad thing, I love a lot of those stories.) But I thought it would be fun to have a protagonist who's far closer to the bottom end of the scale. He has some magic, and it's potent in its own way. But he isn't the big dog or a fighting machine. Outside of his bubble of influence, our protagonist is essentially a normal human as far as powers are concerned. And while you should be warned that this story will get dark in some places it's (hopefully) balanced out by humor and the lighter stuff. I'm not sure how to end this synopsis section so I'll just say bye. Bye!
