With our children asleep in their beds and the morning sun just rising, Iyaz decided to treat me to breakfast. I was still sleeping with my head resting on the table, while he was preparing breakfast for the family, moving a pan over the stove.
"Mahira," He nudged me, after being done with all the preparations. "I have a surprise for you."
"What?" I mouthed.
"I will take you to it." He began tugging me by my hand towards the main door and opened it.
My entire family, along with Pinky and her family, was standing outside, watching us with amusement.
What?
Growing wide awake, I peered around to see everyone holding a huge sign of surprise.
What on earth!
"I planned a surprise breakfast get-together just for you! I even invited your friend." Iyaz now breathed, making me grin in delight.
He was holding the door open, eyeing my reaction with eagerness.
"I-I....." Immediately leaving Iyaz's hand, I stepped on the floor and rubbed my eyes.
This had to be a dream!
"Well, aren't you going to invite us in?" Pinky finally snapped me out of my flabbergasted state, causing me to blush and then give out a loud cry of excitement.
"Course," I laughed, stepping away from the door and letting everyone in.
This was all real.
All of my loved ones were really here, and I couldn't help but feel so overjoyed.
Quickly pulling my family into fierce hugs as they entered the house, I was just about to follow after them into the kitchen when I was pulled back by my hand by Iyaz.
"So, did you like your surprise?" He smirked, eager for my reaction.
Aww! This was so sweet.

I was so thrilled.
"Yes, thank you so much." I couldn't help but clap in excitement.
This was great.
We all were finally together!
"Good." His smirk turned soft and affectionate.
Our sweet moment was broken by the shrill laughs and excitement.
The children were awake.
Immediately, Iyaz's gentle smile twisted into a disapproving scowl.
Oops!
He hated if anyone disturbed the kids and me. The babies waking up meant to Iyaz that they had been disturbed.
He began taking angry steps inside the house, and I quickly followed with an amused smile.
No matter how hostile and tense the atmosphere was, we all were going to be just fine.

Mages in North America seem to have it all – typically from well-off families, and able to manipulate their environment in ways most of the world would never believe. They don’t even have to bother with the mundane details of life like housework, thanks to their sensitives, who also make a useful source for extra magical energy. After all, sensitives have no use for it themselves, and if mages weren’t meant to make use of it, then the sensitives would obviously have some way to prevent that. That a mage can transform a sensitive physically, with no restrictions beyond overall mass and basic biological viability, whereas magic tends not to work directly on any other living thing, is only further proof.
