"do you think the guys will ask us to homecoming?" natalie says out of nowhere. "my brother is definitely asking you. don't tell him i said this but he's so whipped." i invited nat and riley to come over and swim since the sun finally decided to come out for once. we didn't even swim, we're just sitting on my three seater porch chair rocking back and forth.

"i don't know, he's sort of playing the whole homecoming thing off. he doesn't seem interested in going." i frown. my brother is a sucker for school dances. he has to be secretly planning something. "how would you want to get asked?" i ask nonchalantly. "you know she's a hopeless romantic. picture this: the soccer team just won the homecoming game, the crowd is going crazy, we're going crazy and all of a sudden noah is holding a huge sign asking her to homecoming with a huge stuffed animal and chocolates."

riley and i laugh because we know that's exactly how she wants to be asked. "i hate you both." nat puts her sunglasses on and crosses her arms. "what about you bri?" riley asks. "what about me?" she rolls her eyes. "you don't even need to ask. you know she's boring. parker probably asked her to be his girlfriend casually." nat goes off.

"that's exactly how it went. i don't like the big asking thing, it makes me uncomfortable." i shrug. then i realize i just admitted to what nat said. "wait what?" nat sits up. "parker asked you to be his girlfriend?" riley also sits up. my eyes widen. this is why i shouldn't talk.

"psh, no. what?" i laugh nervously and they stare at me. "okay fuck it yes he did. " i try to brush it off like it wasn't a big deal when in reality it really wasn't a big deal. "oh shit, i was just kidding." natalie squeals. "congrats!" riley also squeals and they both act girly. "i didn't get married jeez," i get up. "i hate when you guys act all girly girl like. it's sick!" i fake gag before going back into my house. i see my dad on the couch.

"hey dad." i mess up his hair as i pass by the couch. "hey bear." he responds. "i need to talk to you about something but i'm going to change first." i say before running upstairs. "i'll still be here." my dad shouts. as i reach the top of the stairs, noah approaches me. "hey is my girlfriend still here?" he asks. girlfriend. i forgot, my brother asked nat to be his girlfriend two weeks ago. i really hope she'll be my sister-in-law one day.

"natalie is outside but we're having girl time so don't you dare go down there."

he groans. "tell her to come up when you guys are done painting each others nails." he mimics. i ignore him like usual and go to my room to change. i throw on an oversized shirt over my bathing suit. suddenly i smell pizza.

i run out of my room and down the stairs as fast as i could.

"ew it smells like carbs!" riley walks in the house with nat. "are we all having dinner together?" i get excited. "no thanks, pizza breaks me out," rylie gets her stuff and walks towards the door. "see you losers at school." she blows a kiss before leaving. "classic rylie." noah claps.

i'm actually really confused on what's going on. "and then there were five." i open the box and grab a slice. i watch my mom put her hand on her forehead, sigh, and walk to her room. the door slams shut. did i do something wrong? as i take a bite of my slice i stare at my dad.

"and then there were four." i say while chewing. my dad kisses my forehead then goes after my mom.

"what did i say?" i turn to nat and my brother. noah takes a pizza box, wraps his arm around nat and they go upstairs.

"and then there was one." i pull out my phone. the house got so quiet. i dialed a number i knew by heart and i put my phone up to my ear. "pizza date. you, me, my room. in five minutes, don't be late."
