《The Alteras Games: World Jumper Book 2》Chapter 17

Jet felt awful. His body felt like it was going to explode. When he finally came to his senses, he noticed he was in a bed. 'At least the room isn't white.' Jet still had a sore spot for hospitals. Sitting up, he looked around, confused. Wasn't he with Tija going into Delon City? Once he got out of bed, he noticed his body wasn't hurting. He could move just fine. He even did a few stretches. Jet concluded that his body was fine and something else was hurting. So he did a Soul Teleport, which made the pain even worse. After that test, he went back to lying on the bed.
The door burst open, and Tija walked in. "Yo, how you feeling, Fordy? Hope you didn't die on me."
"You're too loud," Jet complained, not even looking up at her.
"Huh, I didn't know we had been drinking. How did you get a hangover?" Tija threw a bag at Jet.
"What's this?" Jet asked, looking at the bag.
"Clothes."
"What do I need clothes for?" Jet pulled out one of the ugliest suits he had ever seen. It was black and red with lots of frills.
"I got some tickets to see some new ring Lord Joy has procured. It looked odd, so I wanted to see it before I headed back out. Here's the pamphlet." Tija tossed it to Jet.
Jet tossed the suit on the bed and took the pamphlet. Sure enough, it was Amanda's engagement ring he had been carrying. Lord Joy had added to his rare collection of objects. Jet remembered that this world didn't know about diamonds. They tossed them out like they were garbage. He wanted to walk into the place and take back what was his. Then come back to reality, realizing how stupid that would be. But it was so close, yet so far away. "Wait, did you say we're going to see this ring?"
"Duh, weren't you listening?" Tija was getting out a dress and looking it over. "It's been all anyone has been talking about. You're feeling good enough to go, right?"
Jet wouldn't miss this for anything. However, he was not feeling good. "I can manage."
"Great, it will be in three days. Oh, and in nine days, the Alteras Games start. You had to sign up yesterday. You shouldn't have slept for two days." Tija sat down to look at Jet.
"I was asleep for two days?" Jet didn't care about the stupid competition. He had planned to teleport close to the tower and skip the whole thing.
"Don't worry. I signed you up in time."
Jet was now considering how to get the ring back. Until what Tija had said made him pause. "You signed me up?"
"Yeah, that is what you had come here for. But since we need to kill time. Let's go look at this ring." Tija spun in the chair she was sitting in.
Jet stood up and looked at Tija. "You don't even know me. So I have to ask, why are you still helping me?"

"You intrigue me." Tija tapped her chin. "Also, you remind me of someone who saved me once, well technically, twice."
"Does this person have a name?" Jet asked.
"Of course he does, silly." Tija grinned widely.
"Are you going to tell me?" Jet had a feeling the answer would be no.
"Sorry, he would get irritated if I did." Tija got to her feet. "Let's go out." She didn't even wait for an answer and walked to the door.
Jet walked over to the door to join her. "How did you get me into the room?"
"I'm a lot stronger than I look." Tija looked at Jet's skeptical face. "Oh, I had the man at the front desk help."
When Jet saw the man at the front desk, he understood. The guy looked big enough to be a bodybuilder. He had muscles on his muscles. It looked absolutely disgusting. Jet cringed when the man waved at him and then blew a kiss at him. "He left the room after putting me down, right?"
"Hmm, he did help with feeding you and the sponge baths. He really liked all your scars." Tija stopped when she saw Jet's horrified face. "Geez, you really can't take a joke."
"That is not funny." Jet tried to cross his arms and glare. But remembered he was missing one of them.
"Whatever, let's go get a bite to eat. You have got to be hungry by now. What kind of food you want?" Tija walked out of the hotel.
Jet shrugged. "I'm not picky." Then he remembered how bad the food had been on this world. "On second thought, maybe we could make something."
"Wow, that sure sounded picky. Aye, let's get some burgers." Tija took off down the street.
Jet walked beside her and frowned. "This street seems a little dangerous."
Tija put an arm around Jet's waist. "My friend will protect me. You got magic."
Jet was about to push her away but didn't. Something about Tija struck a nerve. He didn't have time to think, someone, stabbed Jet in the side, and he fell to the ground.
"Give me all your money." The man aimed his knife at Tija.
Tija did not look scared. She looked pissed. "You will pay for that." She said with clinched teeth.
The man readied his knife and was about to attack. But he couldn't move. He looked down and saw Jet's hand grabbing his leg. The man jerked his leg away, but it shattered. He screamed as he watched his body slowly turn to ice. All his movements caused his body to break apart into small pieces. Eventually, he fell from all his thrashing, shattering to small bits.
Jet got to his feet, groaning. "Stupid fucker, that hurt."
"Ford, are you ok?" Tija helped him up, trying to look at his wound. It looked like he had been burned.
"I'll be fine, don't think he hit anything important." Jet looked at his coat. "Man, this coat is a loan, and now there is a hole in it."

"Forget about the coat you were just stabbed."
"Let's go get that burger. I'm starving." Then Jet looked at the shattered dead guy. He buried the guy under the concrete.
"You should go see a doctor." Tija looked over the wound carefully.
"Tija, I killed a guy and buried him. Aren't you going to question that?" Jet pointed at the now-disappearing body.
"Why would I? Oh, nah, he was trying to kill us. So why would I care." Tija shrugged it off.
Tija nagged Jet for a while before giving in and going to eat. Jet tried to eat in peace as she kept telling him to get looked at. He, however, did not want to go see a doctor on this world. It would be hard to explain who he was and came from. After they got done, Jet went straight to bed, almost certain the knife had nicked something important.
Tija looked down at Jet in worry as he slept. When she heard the knock at the door, she moved quickly to get the door. "About time."
"Sorry, been a bit busy. You look funny." Almark walked into the room and looked at Jet, jaw-dropping. "Lily, why the hell is Jet here? What have you been doing? Which part about staying out of his timeline did you not understand?"
"All of it. Aaron said that I wouldn't hurt anything by doing this." Lily dropped her illusion turning back into herself.
"Well, Aaron would know. It should make for a great conversation later. He isn't going to wake up, right?" Almark looked at Jet frowning.
"Don't worry. He won't wake up. Jet got stabbed earlier. Can you help him?" Lily pointed at his side.
"You guys do know I am not a healer. Let me take a look." Almark took off Jet's shirt and cringed. "Dam didn't know he had so many scars." He looked at Lily, who had raised an eyebrow. "What? Your scars are lovely. I wouldn't change anything about you."
Lily shook her head. "Oh, I thought you were checking him out the way you were talking. Can you fix him?"
"My usual fix. I'll speed up the time around the wound. Considering he is in the future, I'll assume he won't die." A silver grandfather clock formed behind Almark. He put a hand over the wound on Jet, and the clock's hand rapidly moved forward. Jet's wound was sealed up, leaving a scar. "So, are you ready to go?"
"Nope, I plan to hang out with him for a few days." Lily sat down next to Jet.
"Fine, I'll head to Alteras Tower and get what we need. How long do we plan to stay again?" Almark figured he had better ask.
"Until the end of the games. I want to root my Master on." Lily changed herself back into Tija.
"Alrighty, I'll join you when the games start. I'm quite curious about how he fought in his younger days. Of course, judging from his body, he was quite careless." Almark waved and left the room.
Tija didn't wake Jet up until morning. "Yo, sleepy head, time to wake up."
Jet's eyes flew open, and he sat up. He reached for his side in shock. It didn't hurt anymore. "What's going on?"
"You broke out in a bad sweat and went pale. So I paid a doctor to fix you up. Geez, we could have saved some money if we went to the hospital." Tija pouted.
"I'm sorry. How much do I owe you?" Jet felt bad and amazed at what doctors could do on this world.
"If you win the games, half the reward money will do." Tija gave a bright smile. She had no clue if the games provided a money reward.
"Sure, you can have it all." Jet was leaving after he made it to the tower. So he didn't care about the money.
"Half will be fine. On another subject, what do we do for a few days?" Tija had not thought that far.
"You could show me the town." Jet wanted to get a sense of the way things were run.
"I've been here a few times, but never for sightseeing. So we will have to explore together." Tija got up from her seat. "Let's go."
Jet and Tija spent the next few days wandering around Delon City. They both were kind of disappointed. The city wasn't a tourist attraction at all. In fact, after a few days, they decided the place was depressing. Everyone was kind to the point it was fake. They made sure not to say anything out of line.
"I never want to visit Delon City again," Tija said while walking beside Jet.
"Wait, don't you live here?" Jet asked.
"I said that I pass through here. That doesn't mean I live here. Also, we have been sightseeing for the last two days. Take a hint." Tija lay down on a bed. "Hopefully, the museum visit will be more interesting."
Jet went silent and lay on his bed. He had time to think about what to do. Stealing the ring would cause too many problems. He got lost in his thoughts until he heard snoring. Looking over at Tija, he noticed her asleep. Jet got up and left the room to the roof to get some air. However, when he got to the top, the door was locked. He almost headed back downstairs when he shook his head. Teleporting outside, he walked over to the ledge to look at the Tower. Jet wondered how it worked. It created clouds to make thunderstorms and collected the lightning. From what he could see, it struck the Tower every second or so. The city looked very ominous from the glow of all the lightning strikes.

Sara's (not really) Fabulous System Armageddon, Book I: The World Ended at Rush Hour
Planet Earth, Monday, October 7th, 2019. 18:30 * * On a fateful day, during rush hour in eastern North America, Heavens and Hell crumbled and fell from their higher dimension on Earth. It came from "above" but not the same above we regard in our tridimensional Euclidean reasoning. No, it came from "above" as in from a higher dimension. Bits and pieces of those places fell on Earth from all directions, this time in tridimensional Euclidean space. Satellites, the ISS, and space debris all were wiped clean from orbit. Even those that didn't crash with the falling debris were knocked off orbit by the shockwaves. On the ground, power distribution lines were disrupted and most power facilities were left abandoned by their dead staff. Most of these had emergency shutdown routines that engaged in a few days. Some others had a survivor among their staff that followed protocol and activated their SCRAM switches, stopping the power plant. Long-distance communication disappeared the internet along with it. The world was plunged into technological darkness. Nine hundred and ninety-nine out of every thousand human beings perished immediately in the pulse of magical energy from the torn spatial boundary. Spirits were rent asunder and vanished, their fate neither salvation nor damnation, only oblivion. The criteria used for this culling was latent magic potential. It didn't discriminate against education, gender, age, or ethnic group. But of the around seven million survivors, most would meet their doom moments later. Those on moving vehicles, like the ones driving on highways suddenly had to contend with high-speed uncontrolled cars and trucks driven by corpses. Trapped in their vehicles and helpless, they became part of the long snake of crushed metal. Very few survived. Those in the air or out in the sea were alone and probably unable to control their rides. Airplanes crashed, and ships kept their course or drifted away, depending on their autopilot. Several ended their own lives in utter despair after seeing their loved ones die in front of them. Another large group would die at the hands of other survivors. Violence and aggression became the norm. Only a few sparse pockets of not-so-sane survivors managed to band together and cooperate for the sake of mutual survival. The sole survivor in a five-over-one apartment building in Georgia, a girl became the keystone to humanity's survival. Sara's fabulous System Apocalypse had just started. She has only one remark. It was anything but fabulous. * * Updates every Wednesday and Sunday.
