《Indelible Affairs》⚜️Chapter 84⚜️

We stared at the rusty bungalow through the taxi window, Enos and I. The air inside was probably cooler than out there. It felt unreal. That perhaps this isn't actually happening. My brothers and father are just a mile away. It only began to sink in then. When I thought about it too excessively.

"We should lodge somewhere else instead. It has been decided." I said to my boyfriend. "We'll rest, take a shower and freshen up."

On our way here from the airport we contemplated on whether to drop by and stay the night or just sleep at a motel. Looking at that house right now I don't think I want to sleep there. Not because it appeared broken, but because it felt broken. Even from a distance it felt like I don't belong there.

"Are you guys dropping over here or not?" The taxi driver tried to sound as polite as possible. He had this perculiar accent.

"Is there a motel near by?" Enos inquired.

The man nodded. "A few kilometers up north."

"Take us there."

We stayed at the motel until later that evening. The receptionist had given us a simple room, it was nice though, huge bed, a cosy atmosphere, air conditioning and there's even a tiny fridge. I recollected myself and prepared my heart again for the main event. Enos was alot of help. He diverged my mind away from overthinking. We went for a walk to site see for a bit, the town was pretty normal, nite, extra quiet but chilly. And then we returned when the time came for us to grab another cab to my father's house.

We walked silently through the front yard as we approached the door. My heart was racing and I couldn't prevent the skyrocketing of my anxiety as I reached to knock on the door. I took a deep breath and exhaled as I and Enos waited for anyone to respond.

"I'm nervous."

Enos rubbed my shoulder soothingly. "It'll be fine."

It took sometime for anyone to adress us by the door. But after a solid ten minutes, someone began to speak out from the inside.

"We have no money to pay you. Come back when we're dead." A bored husky voice echoed from inside. "Don't you ever get tired?"

I recognized the owner immediately.

"Shaw..." I called out with a high pitched voice and shaky fingers. A sudden unexpected wave of excitement roared through me upon hearing my oldest brother's voice. "Its me, open up."

"What the fuck?! You better be shitting me right now." Hurried footsteps could be heard from the other side as he approached the door.

Another person's voice echoed, "This better not be some type of deja vu I'm having again. Hey Lucas... What sorta pills are these man? I think I'm hearing our little ray of sunshine."

The door swung open. "Holy fucking shit." Shaw gave me a wide eyed gaze, a huge surprised smile on his sharp handsome face. "It's really you sunshine."

I was too stunned to speak.

It was actually Shaw.

"BETTY...." Lucas came rushing from inside, shoving Shaw aside and swiping me off my feet and onto his shoulder.

"It ain't the pills then," Dan arrived on the porch and joined Lucas at giving me hugs. "The little shit is here."

I hate that reference, but I smiled like a lost puppy anyways as I looked at him upside down from the position I was in on Lucas'shoulder. "You old fart." I told him.

"Same old same old." He grinned at me. He really looked the same though. His blond hair was pushed back, eyes still as dark as the devil's soul. Shaw on the other hand changed his usual hairstyle to a buzzcut.

All corner's of their bodies probably covered in tattoos as thick as a forest.

Shaw laughed with his eyes. "Dad is not gonna believe this. The actual old man might relapse when he gets up to you sitting there in the livingroom."

Lucas didn't even place me on the floor again when he carried me inside while I'm still dangling on his shoulder. His black extremely long pony tail hitting my face. "Wait...." I called out.

My eyes landed on Enos who stood by the porch just perpendicular to Shaw who gave him a piercing gaze that carried the brotherly instinct to be a jerk to my boyfriend. "I didn't introduce somebody. That's Enos White, my boyfriend." I announced proudly.

Both Dan and Lucas turned around to stare at him causing me to be face forward with the messy livingroom that I didn't pay much attention to. I lifted myself slightly to get a better view outside by placing my hands on Lucas' back and averting my head to face outside. It was hard because I was literally hanging.

"Your boyfriend?" Shaw looked to and fro Enos and I. I noticed that Enos' posture remained to be the same. As confident and charming as always. With a decent smile on his face. "Yes, her boyfriend." He nailed on it.

I couldn't decipher the expression on either of my brothers' faces. They just stared at him, as if trying to figure out how this combination made sense. "Nice tattoos." Dan complimented him and Shaw gave his younger brother a sharp glare. Dan mouthed a silent 'what?'

I smiled instead.

He's always the polite one of the three.

"Thanks." Enos replied.

Lucas and Shaw didn't say much aside from come inside and I wanted to rant at them. Atleast accord my partner human decency.

The place was really messy I'll have to admit. But atleast it didn't stink at all. The large living space wasn't organized and nothing was in it's place. "Don't mind us, we get too busy sometimes?" Lucas articulated.

"Busy doing what?" I asked while he put me down on the sofa so I could sit. When Enos was about to join me, Shaw stopped him. "Let us have this one buddy. We really miss her." I mean the way Shaw tried to offer a genuine smile... I couldn't even take it.

"No problem." Enos sat on a chair that was just inches from the sofa while giving me an assuring smile. I mouthed a small thank you and blew him a kiss.

"What have you guys been busy with?" I repeated.

Dan who sat on my other side smirked at me, "Dad is opening a large hardware store soon. We'll be moving to budapest."

What?

"Really?"

I initially feared that they hadn't forsaken the life of crime.

"Yeah." Lucas voiced while heading for the kitchen. "Bet you're proud of us." He winked.

"I have doubts."

Dan and Shaw laughed, "Meet the new and improved Wilson brothers."

I can't believe this.

"What about the authorities?" I eyed him curiously. "Explain how that's gonna work."

"We never said it was a legal hardware store." Shaw smirked.

Enos laughed.

"I knew it." I lifted my hands while shaking my head. "Too good to be true. Shouldn't have raised my hopes up again."

"Uh huh. Don't be ridiculous little girl." Lucas returned with some beers. "We are taking a turn for the better."

It made me happy that we talked líke nothing changed. It felt like nothing changed. "I'm so happy." I really wanted to cry.

"Come here," Shaw pulled me into a hug. I think a tear dropped on his t-shirt. "We have a cry baby in the family." He teased me.

"Shut up," I whined. "I'm being emotional can't you tell that you jerk."

He chuckled. "As always."
