《Indelible Affairs》🔑Chapter 91🔑

Her long brunette hair was swaying leisurely with the wind as she walked steadily along the road. Enos was by her side as they both enjoyed the sunset. Her head was resting on his shoulder as their hands held onto each other.

She looked gorgeous and I couldn't help but stare at her beautiful face. They seemed to be talking about a serious matter. Her eyes carried a sadness and a deep longing.

It doesn't take a genius to know that something wasn't right. She emersed herself in his company, used his body as a stronghold and a shield against her pains. And Enos was there to make sure Elisabeth didn't fall.

I would give anything to be that person for her. An anchor against the hurricanes that threaded her sanity. I can't accept the idea that I'm out of time. I can't spend the rest of my life just questioning myself of the things that could've been, and thinking 'if only'

The words of my mother visited my mind again like a phantom in an hunted house. She made this so clear to me years ago and I don't think I will ever forget her exact sentences. There is nothing as painful as losing the person you love forever, and it's even more shattering to bare witness your only person fall in love with somebody else.

And it truly hurt watching Elisabeth from a far distance while I sat in my car alone. The weather was mockery to my emotions but it glorified them instead.

As they moved under the glow of the sun, anyone would call it love.

I held my heart on my sleeves and swallowed hard when I witnessed Enos connect his lips with hers. And I held on tighter when she returned the kiss with her whole being.

I looked away.

Fuck.

It felt terrible seeing their display of affection. Was she really content with him? Could she be in love with that man? Did I wait a moment too long to come back for her again?

I wanted to keep my gaze elsewhere, but like magnet, Elisabeth always pulls me back to her.

She gets me everytime.

I saw Enos wrap his arms around her body like he owned her, and it took all the strength inside of me to stop myself from riping her from his arms. And from the way Elisabeth buried herself into him, it's like she wanted to be owned by nobody else but Enos.

It made my mind wonder back to the moments I used to hold her in my arms as we shared the same bed. I can still feel the weight of her body against me if I think hard enough. Betty always gave her entire self to me just like she is doing with Enos right now.

Why did I take this long to want her so badly? Why not then, when she gave me everything? During the times she broke, stole and ran to have me entirely. Back when Betty wronged herself just to sleep next to me on my free nights. Back to when she agreed to only my teams.

If there is still love for me in her tender heart, then I'm going to fight for it. And as long as my hopes aren't dead then I will live to see us together again.

I watched her and Enos turn to the direction of the lodge they were taking residence at. For a change, my private investigator worked faster than expected.

I switched on my car with the intention of following behind them at a reasonable distance. I know how criminal this appears but I can't help it. It has been so long since I laid my eyes on her and I can't get enough. The engine roared to life and I programmed a moderate speed to avoid suspicion with all the tinted mirrors rolled to the top.

It didn't take long for the Lodge to come to view. I kept my starved eyes on Elisabeth all the way long. Memorizing the changes in her being that I couldn't bare witness. The confidence in her walk, the strength of her steady steps, the length of her silky wavey brown hair, the freedom of being loved openly and not behind withering metal walls.

From outside the gates, I recognized the presence of Shaw, Betty's oldest brother, waiting quietly. I remember his face from the time I made my first search for Elisabeth. Next to Shaw were two other men I depicted to be her other brothers.

Betty must already be acquainted with her family. But something about how she stood a few feet too far from Shaw made me realise that the acquaintance wasn't a pleasant one. In a matter of fact, even from this angle, she seemed pained and not happy to see them.

I was aware of the situation surrounding her upbringing. She is the only person in her family to be crime free. The long list of recorded and unrecorded felonies committed by her brothers is shocking. But not as nerve wracking as her father's. Infact, it's terrifying. The man is highly wanted in more than six countries for trafficking of illegal weapons and drugs, running unlicensed whore houses in mexico involving the importation of young women from Colombia and the middle east, three murders, all men killed in one night before he completely disappeared. Elisabeth's father is a very dangerous man. And I'm not sure she is aware of the extense.

The only reason I handed to her the address was my ignorance on the severity of her family's crimes. I wasn't aware of just how deeply rooted the felonies were. If I'd known from the start that her father was a cold hearted murderer, I wouldn't have linked her to them. And I realised everything a little too late. If anything, I should get her away from this place. Mister Wilson owes alot of people. He has enemies searching for him and his family.

Elisabeth is safe everywhere else in the world but here.
