《I Died and Got Summoned to Another World as a WHAT?!?!》Ep. 740 The New Soulscape Part 9

Since this is my first time doing this I don't venture too far from the gate. I am mainly just testing out how long my mana will last while controlling the shark. Of course this is just swimming around, if I get into a fight I will use a lot more mana.
Even just swimming around burns through my mana at a really high rate. It is enough to make me rethink exploring this world, at least not until I have more mana. Or a better way of getting around at least, even without using mana detection I run out of mana in an hour.
So I go back through the gate into the hall and wait until my mana recovers. Then I head to the next door and walk through, this time I am standing on a grassy hill. Directly ahead of me is a city and I can see crowds moving around inside it.
As soon as I have built my body I head towards the city, my curiosity is raging. The city is walled so as I go down the hill I am no longer able to see inside. I can also see a road leading to a gate into the city so I head over to get on the road.
Following the road I quickly approach the city gate, which has guards standing on either side of it. The guards stare at me as I approach and they don't exactly look friendly. However, I ignore the looks they are giving me and keep approaching.
Guard yells "No beasts allowed!"
"What makes you call me a beast?"
Guard says "If you are not human, then you are either a beast or a demon!"
"And if I was a demon?"
Guard says "Then we would kill you!"
"Huh, this isn't a very friendly plane."
Guard says "Leave! The only way for you to enter this city is as a slave!"

I was already turning away, not wanting any trouble, but I stop when I hear the word slave. Gathering a large portion of my mana I use it to send out a pulse to scan the entire city. The city is populated by a little over ten thousand humans, not a large city.
However, there are almost three times as many beasts inside the city. They are evenly split between humanoid beasts and normal beasts, and they are all slaves. As my mana returns with this information I find myself becoming more and more angry.
However, it isn't like I can take on an entire city by myself, at least not in soul form. Then again, I don't exactly have to, my mana brought back a lot of information. Part of that information is the fact that all of the slave collars used in the city are of the same type.
I quickly home in on the nearest one, which is just inside the city gate, and sense how it is enchanted. Once I know that I quickly figure out how to disenchant it in the simplest way possible. Then I gather up all my remaining mana and send another pulse into the city.
This entire time the guards have been glaring at me as I slowly move away from the gate. After releasing the second pulse they are quickly distracted by roars and screams inside the city. Everywhere the pulse passes quickly becomes engulfed in chaos as all the slave collars stop working.
I may not be able to go into the city and free all the slaves, but I can give them a chance to fight for freedom. Even if they die in the attempt, at least they will die free and they will have a chance at some revenge. However, since I used up all of my mana I can't stick around to see what happens.
If any of the humans inside the city figure out that it was me who did this I would be in trouble. Without mana to defend myself from attacks I can't even put up much of a fight. After everything I have gone through to repair my soul I am not about to let myself get hurt now.

So, I run all the way back to the gate and jump through it without looking back even once. Only once I am safely back in the hall do I allow myself to relax and catch my breath. By the time I have recovered my mana it is too late to continue exploring, so I wake myself up.
As expected, Nala and Albion are already awake and eagerly awaiting their breakfast. After feeding them and myself I get up and head over to the construction site. Not only do I find people waiting for me but there is also a large pile of rope.
The rope is green since it is made from vines, but when I test it I find it is better than normal rope. I use it to quickly lay out the edges of two rectangles, one slightly smaller than the other. Then I explain to the group of elves and human children what I need them to do.
They are going to be fetching leaves from the storehouse and laying them out to fill the rectangles. I ask them to make it two layers thick and to avoid leaving spaces as much as they can. It takes them a couple of hours and during that time I continue working on the ship.
Once they are done I feed them lunch in thanks and then let them go about their business. Then I sit down and start using my mana to fuse all the leaves together. After they are fused together I fill them with mana and then enchant them the same way I did the wyvern's wings.
This gives me two large silver sails to be used on the main mast of the ship. Added to the sail I made out of the wyvern's wings that means that all the sails for the ship are done. Now tomorrow when the sailors come over I can have them figure out how the rigging should be done.
Since all the sails can be raised and lowered by command words we only need rigging for orienting the sails. That will make the rigging much simpler than that on normal ships and easier to work with. Since the sailors are the ones going to be working the rigging I am fine with letting them figure out how it should be done.
With that out of the way I meditate to recover my mana and then work on the ship until dinner. After dinner I play with the kids in the soulscape and then return to the hall. I was planning to explore a new door, but my curiosity leads me back to the last door.
I head through just to have a look and see what happened after I broke all the slave collars. Once through I quickly build my body and then turn to look towards the city. Even from here I can see a lot of damage and there are signs of fires in several areas.
As I move closer to the city I notice that there are no guards at the city gate this time. I quickly reach the city and move inside, but I am stopped by the smell. It is a mixture of decomposing flesh and burned bodies, really unpleasant.
It isn't the smell that stops me, but the implications, why would there be bodies? If these are all soul creatures then the bodies should have vanished soon after death. Yet as I continue into the city I can see bodies all over the place, both humans and beasts.
