《Learn How To Love》A Scary Movie: Part One

It was a quiet ride to the movies, with the exception of some vintage rock playing softly from the speakers. Still, it was quiet enough for tension to grow the longer the two of you sat unspeaking. After a song and a half had gone by, Steven cleared his throat.
Then two more songs finished, and you arrived at the theater.
The tension dissipated as the overpowering smells of popcorn and spilled soda washed over you. You never thought a stained carpet could make you so happy, but the movies were a source of nostalgia and comfort. It was especially a relief after that car ride.
Steven felt it, too. There was just something about the movies. Something that lifted a weight from your shoulders and stuck a smile on your face. At least the lobby did, anyway.
There were slim pickings, to say the least. The movie lineup for the night was as follows;
- Dogcopter 11: Am I a dog or am I a copter? If I'm a copter, I'm a doggy of a copter. Am I a copter, or am I a dog? If I'm a dog, I'm a copter of a dog.
- Sonic The Hedgehog 4: "Gotta Go Fast...er"
- Shrek 3 (the worst one)
- Downton Abbey: A New Era
- The Lurch 2
- Mamma Mia, Here We Go Again: AGAIN
- The Lurch 4; How To Boogie
You mutually decided on The Lurch 2.
Steven cleared his throat and fought the urge to avoid eye contact."Sequels are usually cash grabs, and this is probably no exception, but Sadie said it was good?" Steven shrugged.
"I can definitely trust her on this one," you agreed with a timid smile, "I've been to her house and seen her film collection."

Steven smiled lightly and held your eye for a moment too long before approaching the ticket counter; "two for The Lurch 2, please." When he had exchanged some cash for the two tickets, he quickly passed one to you, his fingertips brushing yours tentatively.
To say he was walking on eggshells around you was an understatement.
You leaned towards him and lowered your voice; "Steven, are you okay?"
"Yeah- yep," he responded quickly, too quickly. He looked around the lobby for a distraction. "Uh- hey! How about some popcorn?"
"Yeah... yeah, sure" You looked at him strangely but decided not to let it phase you. "BUT, it's not a trip to the movies without red vines and a coke," you smirked.
He breathed out a chuckle and followed you to the snacks counter. You stopped him when he pulled out his wallet.
"Hey, you got the tickets, I'll get the snacks. It's only fair," you raised your eyebrows and smiled gently.
Steven looked unreasonably bewildered. "Wh- at least let me get my OWN snacks-"
"You got MY ticket!" You protested with your finger in Steven's face.
"Yeah, well, you deserve nice things!" Steven crossed his arms and smiled with his lips.
"Steven," you took his hand and tugged his arm out of its position, "will you stop being the most perfect, handsome, chivalrous boyf- boy for one night?"
His eyebrows furrowed while the two of you stood there in silence.
"So you think I'm handsome?"
"Shut up," you shoved him away playfully, unable to hide the smile spreading across your face. "Okay, now- buzz off. Go get us some seats or something while I stock up," you shooed him away with your hand.
"Alright, alright," he put his hands up and walked away in surrender.

Two armfuls of popcorn, candy, and soda later; you found Steven in the very back of the nearly empty theater.
"The back?" You hollered, "really?!" You raised your arms slightly in an attempt to emphasize the amount of snacks you were holding. Aside from the few stray pieces of popcorn falling by your feet, you were successful.
"I believe in you!" Is all Steven had to say in response.
And so, with a huff (and several eye-rolls), you trudged up the carpeted stairs to the very back row of the dim theater.
"Take your damn popcorn," you stood over Steven, weirdly exhausted from the ordeal.
"Yes, ma'am," he nodded with a goofily stern expression and took his bag of popcorn from you. You gasped and recoiled, pulling your hand away before he could take his soda.
"Hey, I've got at least 15 more years before I become a ma'am, alright?" You raised your eyebrows and held Steven's fountain soda in between you.
"Yes... not-ma'am," he tentatively reached for the cup in your hand. And, although a little confused, you let him take it.
"Why these seats?" You sat down with a huff.
"What do you mean? They're perfect!" Steven exclaimed, spilling popcorn in the process. "This way, there's no heads in our way, no kids behind us kicking the chairs, and we don't have to crane our necks up to see the screen!"
"Well, yeah... I guess, but is it worth walking up a mile of stairs for?" You ripped open the packet of red vines.
"You told me to get seats, I got seats," Steven shrugged and snatched a candy vine from the package in your hands.
You sighed and bit into your own red candy; "you got me there."
