Chapter 1308: 1308
Chapter 1308 Got the Critical Account Number!
The suspect heard what Fang Qiu said.
His countenance changed, and he turned his head. No one knew what he was thinking.
“After working there for a few months, you must have known how many patients came to you every day. Every single day, you could see the pure and honest smiles on their faces and feel their deep gratitude to you. They gave you the most sincere and innocent smiles. In return, you sold them fake drugs. Don’t you feel your conduct is utterly disappointing?”
Fang Qiu asked.
His question filled the suspect with the hot agony of shame.
He had experienced everything that Fang Qi said.
More than that, these unsophisticated villagers often invited him to their houses and asked him to dinner. They generously sent him all kinds of local specialties, organic vegetables planted in their fields, and good-quality meat like chicken, ducks, and fish.
At this moment, those touching scenes flashed before his eyes.
“Do you know why I established the Three Billion Foundation?”
The suspect was touched, and Fang Qiu continued, “It was because I had been to the countryside and witnessed the medical conditions there. Whenever I saw these patients from the countryside suffer, I felt miserable. I started the Three Billion Foundation because I wanted to help them to end their pain and suffering. When they fell ill, they could see a doctor without having to worry about the fees and the medicine. In this way, I hoped they could live a better life.”
“Tell me, did I accomplish my goal?”
The suspect heard the question.
He bit his lip and nodded and did not dare to look at Fang Qiu.
“I did it!”
Fang Qiu said with a wry smile, “I thought I had achieved my goal, but it turns out I didn’t.”
“Because of the fake and inferior drugs.”
“Because of this incident, the Foundation is on the brink of collapse!”
“If it were to shut down, do you have any idea how much harm it would cause to Chinese Medicine and these honest and sincere villagers?”
“They might be overcome by their illnesses and die because they could no longer afford the medical treatment. Can you bear to see these tragic consequences?”
Fang Qiu’s eyes hardened as he said in an even sterner tone, “You’re holding back the truth, so I guess the people behind you must have asked you to keep their secrets. But if we do not catch them this time, they would commit the same crime many more times. One day, when the Foundation collapses, all the honest folks in the countryside will suffer!”
“And you are just a chess piece in their hands. With your help, they will destroy Chinese Medicine, your favorite field.”
“Tell me, is that what you want?”
The more Fang Qiu talked…
The lower the suspect’s head sank…
Fang Qiu could even imagine how much he was struggling!
“You are also from the countryside.”
Fang Qiu gazed at him and said, “Your parents are from the countryside. You got into the county-level high school with the best grades in the town. How did your parents earn your tuition fees? They endured all the hardships and spent all the money they earned on you. When they were sick, they didn’t even dare to see a doctor. It was because you needed the money to attend school and buy all the study materials and learning tools.”

“Later, you were admitted to a first-class, prestigious university, but you didn’t go there because your parents were sick. In the end, you chose the University of Chinese Medicine to treat your parents and let them live happily and peacefully for the rest of their lives.”
“Am I right so far?”
Fang Qiu asked and added, “But what are you doing now? You’re hurting people like your parents. If your parents received shoddy traditional Chinese medicine, what would happen to them? Do you dare to think of the unfortunate consequences?”
At this point…
The suspect finally couldn’t help but burst into tears.
“Stop it. Please stop.”
The suspect buried his head, repeatedly waved his hand, and pleaded.
Near them…
The policeman who stood in the corner doing the recording remained still.
The scene was transmitted to the monitoring room through the digital video camera in his hands. Chief Pan had been sitting before the monitor screen. When he saw the suspect’s response, he couldn’t help clenching his fists tightly.
He secretly cheered Fang Qiu on in his heart.
As the chief of a police station, he could easily see that the suspect’s psychological defense line was on the verge of collapse.
Next, as long as Fang Qiu made an extra effort, the suspect would likely be completely crushed. At that time, he would tell the whole story.
“Hold your head up.”
Hearing the man’s cries, Fang Qiu suddenly bellowed, “Look into my eyes!
Somehow…
The suspect, seemingly shocked by Fang Qiu’s roar, raised his head.
Fang Qiu saw his face.
His eyes were bloodshot and puffy from crying, and tears streamed uncontrollably down his face.
“I don’t know why you chose to keep the secrets, but apart from personal interests, there is justice and fairness in this world!”
Gazing into his eyes, Fang Qiu said, “You were once a student of medicine, so you should know the truth: Doctors with top medical skills could manage state affairs by treating diseases, and those secondary-leveled ones may help the patients to recuperate, yet the elementary doctors might probably be able to treat common diseases. These evil-doers harmed our fellow citizens and wrecked the peaceful atmosphere of our motherland and society. Do you still want to aid these heartless people?”
After that…
The suspect immediately hung his head in shame.
While sobbing, he said, “I’ll tell you everything.”
In the monitoring room…
“Slap!”
When he heard what the suspect heard, Chief Pan excitedly smacked his hand down onto the table and jumped up despite himself. His spirits soared.
In the interrogation room…
“Say it!”
Fang Qiu said bluntly, “Tell me everything you know!”
“They gave me a lot of money.”
The suspect continued, “They promised I could get a high percentage for each package of medicine I sold. Beyond that, they even offered me a bonus. I was in urgent need of a sum of money. My mother had just been diagnosed with terminal cancer, so… I had to do this.”
As he spoke…
The suspect began to shed tears again.
“Don’t you have any sympathy for other people?”
Fang Qiu was furious.
He sympathized with this suspect in his misfortune, but he was also bursting with indignation!

“Your mother is sick, but other people’s parents got the medicine from you. You had no choice but to protect your mother, but what about other people’s parents?”
Fang Qiu barked the question at him.
He didn’t intend to put pressure on him. By doing this, he wanted the suspect to know he was wrong to do so. Fang Qiu impressed on him what a dreadful mistake he had made!
“I didn’t think too much about it.”
The suspect explained gloomily, “I thought of nothing but the quickest way to make money. With enough money, I could afford the medical treatment for my mother. Then, they came to me; they had masks on and gave me a huge sum of money.”
“I wanted the money so much but didn’t dare to accept it!”
“But later, they told me that the doctors in clinics in their towns had agreed to make a deal with them. All of them took the money. Doctors like me had different difficulties and were in urgent need of money. When we were in this together, we felt more at ease and got the deal done respectively.”
Fang Qiu heard the inside story.
His brows furrowed.
“With masks?”
“Who were they?”
Fang Qiu asked.
“I don’t know.”
The suspect shook his head and said, “But I had an account from them. They transferred all the money to me through this account. You can check the account number.”
“How could it be that simple?”
Fang Qiu’s eyebrows rose and he asked in disbelief.
“That’s all I know about them. I’ve told you everything.”
The suspect said.
“The matter is not complex at all. Why didn’t you tell us at the beginning?”
Fang Qiu made a detailed inquiry. “Is there any other shadowy plot behind?”
Upon hearing that…
The suspect was silent for a long moment.
After a long time, he said, “They said that if anything went wrong, they would give us a large sum of money as long as we took all the blame. The money was enough to cure my mother’s illness. If we didn’t get the money, we could expose them.”
“Alas.”
Fang Qiu sighed and shook his head.
It was sad and pitiful.
These people had never revealed their faces. How could he trust them so much?
He reached out and took the bank card from the suspect.
Fang Qiu rose to his feet and said, “You still have a conscience.”
After he said that…
He turned around and walked toward the door.
Before he went out, he stopped and said without looking back, “I will treat your mother’s illness.”
Then, he strode away.
His promise resounded in the room.
The suspect’s eyes widened in surprise as he stared blankly at Fang Qiu’s back.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you so much!”
The suspect repeatedly expressed his thanks and couldn’t refrain from holding his head and crying his heart out.
Outside the interrogation room…
The policeman followed Fang Qiu out, carrying the digital video camera.
“Clap, clap, clap…”
When Fang Qiu walked out of the interrogation room, he heard a burst of clapping.
He looked up.
At this moment, Chief Pan was standing at the door of the monitoring room, clapping for Fang Qiu, his face full of admiration.
“This is the bank card from the suspect.”
Fang Qiu handed the bank card to Chief Pan.
“Okay.”
Chief Pan nodded with satisfaction. On the spot, he handed the bank card to the policeman holding the digital video camera and ordered, “Make every possible effort to check out this bank card in the shortest time. If necessary, you can apply for special help from your superiors.”
“Yes.”
The police officer took the bank card and immediately went to check on it.
“It’s done.”
Chief Pan told Fang Qiu, “Now we’ve finally found some useful clues. Don’t worry. We’ll inform you as soon as we get anything.”
“Thank you.”
Fang Qiu expressed his gratitude.
“That’s what we should do.”
Chief Pan laughed and said, “Honestly, I should thank you. You made him speak by enlightening him with affection and motivating him with reason. Without you, we couldn’t have gotten this clue from the suspect so quickly. Thank you for that.”
“This is also what I should do.”
Fang Qiu answered with a smile and strode out of the police station.
After leaving the police station, Fang Qiu immediately called Li Ji and asked him to help with the investigation. He felt that the result would come out faster this way. Even though they got the clue from the suspect, the ensuing investigation would be more challenging. It wouldn’t be easy to find out more facts.
After the phone call, Fang Qiu rushed to a small village near the neighboring city.
He saw the suspect’s parents.
Their situation…
It was precisely the same as the suspect had said.
“Sir, Madam.”
When he met the two elderly people at their home, Fang Qiu greeted them with a smile and said, “Your son entrusted me with your treatment.”
“Then, where is Xiao Liang? Why hasn’t he come back yet?”
The suspect’s father asked.
“He’s too tied up with his work outside, so he asked me to check on your health. He’ll come back to see you once he finishes his work and has time to rest.”
Fang Qiu explained patiently.
Afterward, he began to examine and treat the suspect’s mother.
When Fang Qiu completed the treatment…
He was ready to leave.
“Xiao Fang, when you return, please deliver a message to our son. Tell him to take good care of himself. Everything is fine at home, and he doesn’t need to worry about us. Just call us when he is free. We want to hear his voice.”

The Orb Weaver Chronicles
"The Orb Weaver Chronicles contains several major and unique events that may or may not unknowingly intertwines with one another. The author of these chronicles is unknown, although some have hinted at the symbolism behind its name..." - Year unknown, location unknown 9 February 2022 Update: Welcome to the companion short story compilation of my novel trilogy The Shadow Paradigm. This compilation features prequels, sidequels and sequels to the novel's major plotline, as well as featuring a wide range of characters, new and recurring. Prior knowledge of the novel is not necessary as the Orb Weaver Chronicles' short stories are standalone. Once called The Arkesyyan Chronicles, I've deleted quite a few of its old stories. Due to the new avenue and revision, oriented toward more mystery and film-noir ambience, that I took my stories into, I've removed all aliens and overly sci-fi aspects of the whole TSP lineup, so I've updated the Orb Weaver Chronicles accordingly. I hope you enjoy them, and in time, a revised version will also be updated.
