The next day, Leonel pestered Ren over the phone, asking about his time alone with Evie.

“Nothing happened,” Ren said, annoyed. He didn’t know why he was even annoyed. Was it because of Leonel’s never-ending questions or because Evie logged out the moment she got Meriyaah’s cloak?

She didn’t have to be so obvious about not wanting to be with him even for a second after they got what they wanted.

“Are you sure that nothing happened?” Leonel took a deep breath on the other line. “And here I was, making all sorts of excuses to Saya, so she wouldn’t bother you. I feel like all those hours of entertaining her had gone to waste.”

Leonel already told Ren that he knew the whole story, and Ren didn’t know whether it was a good thing that Leonel knew.

Leonel promised to be careful and that he wouldn’t do anything unnecessary to prompt Saya into posting Evie’s video.

And Ren trusted Leonel to keep his mouth shut.

When Ren brought up seeing Leonel and Isolde kiss, Leonel quickly debunked it, saying that Isolde was merely blowing away the dust in his eyes.

Ren didn’t feel sorry about the misunderstanding, though. Leonel and Isolde really looked good together.

On the contrary, Ren felt like the misunderstanding did the pair well. Lately, he could see something off with how Leonel looked at Isolde and how the latter was much closer to him than before.

That gave Ren the impression that it was only a matter of formalities.

Ren really hoped that Leonel would get the clues and start courting Isolde for real.

“Anyway, don’t do anything unnecessary and pretend like you don’t know anything,” Ren told him.

“I got it, but it must be frustrating, right? I still can’t believe that Saya is capable of doing that.”

Saya was capable of doing many things, apparently. Ren thought.

“Are you sure that you don’t like her anymore?” Leonel asked for the nth time.

“No. I’m pretty sure.”

“Just asking because . . . you know. This is your opportunity to be with her. I know how you liked her since high school and–”

“It’s over,” Ren cut him. “I’m long over her and what she did now . . .” He paused and sighed before changing the topic. “Anyway, have you seen COVENANT’s announcement about the Halloween event?”

Like a powerful taunt, Leonel’s aggro quickly went from Saya and Evie to the game.

“Yeah! I’m hyped! I’m currently reading it right now!”

“Have you read it?” Leonel asked excitedly. “There’s a lot of servers to choose from, and each has its own story. I think this Mad Lab isn’t that scary, so I suggest that we choose that instead. And what’s with this number 10? It’s kind of shady that it’s just a question mark . . . we should definitely do it.”

Ren didn’t quite hear what Leonel was saying since he was occupied with the event displayed on his laptop screen.

He had no knowledge about the first Halloween Event in COVENANT since he hadn’t even started playing the game when it happened.

Some of the details were discussed in the forums, so Ren tried to recall as much as he could. The event was rather popular, and a lot of people would bring it up every November in the past.

It would be a hot topic for the entire month, and if it weren’t for the Christmas Event, it would probably still be the talk of the town.

According to what he could recall, every story had a Boss, and killing it and completing the story would earn the players enough points to pin them to the top spot.
