Chapter 356: 356 Demigod
356 Demigod
The journey to the primordial sea was quite long. According to Cofuran, it would take more than three months.
Although he did not go all out, a journey of three months was already quite a long period of time for a Dao heart realm cultivator.
Yuchi, who was in the sky, landed on the ground with Yue Hanjiang.
They had arrived in the wilderness, and there was a small wooden cabin left behind by an unknown person. The door of the wooden house was open, so they decided to rest for a while.
Yue Hanjiang was like a little child, chasing after some small animals in the wilderness. Yuchi was sitting on an old stool in front of the small wooden cabin. He was holding the wooden box containing the moon fragment that Gu Yushen had given him.
The moon fragment was like a crystalline fang. The fang was about the length of a human’s pinky finger. It was transparent, and the tip was extremely sharp. Just touching it with one’s fingers was enough to cause pain.
“Yuchi, are you mad that I’m not telling you everything outright?”
Cofuran appeared next to him. She was obviously unhappy with what Gu Yushen had said.
“It’s fine.”
Yuchi examined the moon fragment in his hand.
“I don’t plan to intentionally investigate this stuff. I’ll just make my own judgment when I actually encounter the moon god race.”
“The only thing I care about now is how to improve my strength.”

Cofuran smiled.
“I knew you wouldn’t be interested in these things. What’s the point of knowing these annoying things anyway?”
“Anyway, as you said, this matter is completely unrelated to your cultivation. That’s why I’m not telling you these things now. I don’t want you to be distracted by these miscellaneous things.”

Cofuran knew many secrets about this world, which she buried in her heart.
If she wanted to tell Yuchi about it, she would be able to regale him with information for days on end.
In her opinion, it would be better for Yuchi himself to learn about and discover these things himself.
Only at critical moments would Cofuran tell him crucial information that he would need to make an educated decision.
When Yuchi displayed a kind and honest smile, Cofuran looked at the sky in the distance and said, “This time, the primordial sea we’re going to is much more dangerous than the Ancient God Sea. I hope you can find some precious treasures of your own during this trip.”
“Of course, you must also stay vigilant, as there might even be demigods there.”
Demigods!
Demigod was actually the peak of the Dao heart realm, wherein the Dao heart realm cultivator would be able to take out their Dao heart from their sea of consciousness and then use it to augment their Dao heart skills in battle.
Incidentally, like the term half-step Dao heart realm cultivator, demigods were also a rather misguided term. One was either a god, or not.
“As for this moon fragment, I think you can absorb it.”
“Although I’m prejudiced against the Knights of the Round Table, the moon fragment is still a useful item for you.”
“When combined with the Heavenly Dao spiritual liquid, it can help you stabilize your Dao heart.”
After all, when you try to advance to the demigod realm, it will definitely be countless times more difficult than for other Dao heart realm cultivators, though if you do, you’ll probably be the most terrifying demigod!
The reason for this was very simple.
Not everyone was qualified to absorb a second Dao heart.

Under normal circumstances, the stability of one Dao heart was already enough to cause the cultivator trouble. Right now, there was a second Dao heart in Yuchi’s sea of consciousness.
It was impossible to only strengthen one and not the other.
“Thus, when we reach the next primordial sea, you need to do everything in your power to find more Heavenly Dao spiritual liquid, or find more treasures to strengthen your Dao heart. This is vital to your future cultivation.”
“Oh, that’s right.”
“If you have time, you can take a look at your own attributes. I’ve already revised them. I hope this will give you a clearer understanding of your own strength. Then, you can use this to roughly judge the strength of others. This is all I can help you with at this stage. I hope you like it.”
“In any case, even if you don’t like it, I won’t change it.”
“Alright, that’s enough for now. I’ll go back and deal with my own matters.”
“You can take a look at the attributes, and also absorb the Heavenly Dao spiritual liquid and moon fragment.”
After saying this, Cofuran disappeared into the fishing rod.
Yuchi felt the cold surface of the moon fragment in his hand. He thought about Cofuran. She was indeed somewhat special.
Did she really come from the sea of spacetime?
In that case, where was this sea of spacetime?
What will happen if I go there?
Soon after.
Yuchi laughed and shook his head. Such questions had no answers for the time being.
In any case, it had been a long time since he last examined his own strength.

Core Defect
In the 264 years since the Great Singularity Wars, the world has been irrevocably changed. Technologies like nanobots and rogue artificial intelligences have caused the planet's wildlife to evolve in dangerous and powerful ways, pushing humanity to the verge of extinction. However, the remaining survivors are not without ways to fight back. Nanotech can enhance humans just as well as beasts, but perhaps most surprisingly, humanity has found an unexpected ally: a group of human-neutral AIs called Daemons. Val is a 22-year old woman striving to become a User: a nano-empowered human paired with a Daemon that serves as society's final and most powerful line of defense. When a critical issue in her nanosystem's core seemingly leaves her unable to serve as a User, she's given a difficult choice: give up on her dreams or accept a potentially unstable AI, Noir, as her Daemon partner. Val and Noir are stronger together than they are apart, but can they survive long enough to unlock their potential? Can they find a place among the other pairings like them, shunned by society but essential to civilization's survival? If Users are humanity's last line of defense, welcome to the sacrificial first line: the Defects. Updates are currently once a week, aiming for the weekend. Chapters usually 2k-3k in length.

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
