《Wolf Bloodline》Reality Is In The Eyes

The fourth epic swung his spear, attempting to shatter the ground once again. I leapt from the ground, breathing fire from above. The Fourth clung to his epic cloak, but it was only a matter of time before I landed and swung my fist at him. Thanks to my dragon eyes, I could see where he was and anticipate his next attack.
When he disappeared in a puff of smoke and attacked from a different location, I acted quickly and kicked him in the face. Even though he disappeared again, I was now able to anticipate his incoming attacks.
At last, I was able to counter the fourth epic's attacks. My dragon eyes visualized each incoming attack and I acted accordingly.
The fourth epic fought back powerfully. The destruction and countless enemies seemed endless. Rocks flew towards me from the smoke, forming a high, flat wall that threatened to crush me. I jumped left and right to escape.
In a diagonal manner, I used my claws to climb the rocks. Suddenly, a spear attack appeared from inside the rock. Thanks to my dragon eyes, I realized this and ducked the spear attack, dodging it and swinging a punch at the fourth epic.
The fourth epic grabbed my fist and threw me high into the air. He used his spear to show me that I was falling from the sky. Feeling a nudge from behind me, I managed to dodge the incoming attack once again.
We fell through the clouds at a rapid rate. Anticipating his next attack, I grabbed him by the arm with my claw, pulled him underneath me, and punched him.
As we neared the ground, I was about to throw a punch when the fourth epic disappeared in a puff of smoke. I somehow threw my fist at the ground where I was standing.

Strangely, I was on the ground without falling. In this increasingly difficult battle, I knew what I had to do: smash the emerald on the spear.
I knew that the enemy was fleeing quite fast, but I had to do something. Otherwise, I would not get any result from the battle. So, I thought it would be logical to give the enemy a chance and bring him closer to me. I wanted to talk to the fourth epic to provoke him to increase his attacks.
"Come on, is that all you can do? Attack with all your might."
Upon my words, the fourth epic seemed to be displeased. To show this, he surrounded the piece of earth under me with lava, held me where I was, and emerged from under the earth with smoke, appearing in front of me.
"Let's get this over with, kid."
The fourth epic swung his spear at me as if he had doubled his speed. Dodging the incoming spear blows, I caught an opening and swung a punch. But before I could deliver the punch, a chain came out from under me and pulled me to the ground. I got rid of the chain, but I had to eat the blow at the back end of the spear.
As he held my fist in the air and was about to breathe fire out of his mouth, I grabbed his hand and backflipped, kicking him. As he released my hand, I continued to throw my punches, but he was still able to physically fight back, using his spear to block me.
He grabbed me by the foot as I jumped and threw me towards the lava. He was handing me the pointy end of the spear. It was exactly the move he wanted me to dodge this blow, but I had to put my plan into action using this difficult situation. It could be my only chance.

The fourth epic, taking advantage of this, pushed me into the lava with all his might. I had to either fall into the lava or take the spear to my heart. So, I did something unexpected and quickly blew fire from my mouth into the spear between my palms.
My hands began to burn, but I was about to get what I wanted. Holding the spear with all my strength so that the fourth epic could not pull it back, I continued to blow fire. Just then, the iron of the spear softened from the heat, and I used my strength to tear the top of the spear from the shaft with my stabbing claws.
At the same time, the emerald of the spear shattered in my hand, and everything was back to normal again. The fourth epic, angry about the shattering of the spear, commanded his beast, hitting the bottom part of the spear on the ground.
"Destroy the child."
The monster turned its head towards me on command, and I braced myself for the blue plasma attack, unsure of how to escape it. In my moment of despair, my dragon suddenly pounced on the monster, catching it off guard.
With my dragon by my side, we both attacked, determined to end the war. As we exchanged powerful blows, the ground shook beneath us, but thanks to my dragon eyes, I had the advantage in this battle.
It was easier to anticipate their attacks than before, and after a series of punches, I was able to knock down the Fourth Epic, while the Dragon defeated the beast.
The Fourth Epic slowly stood up, and I called out to him to surrender.
"Your monster is dead, and the battle is over. We outnumber you. Surrender."
But the Fourth Epic grunted and gave me a stern reply.
"Surrender? Surrender has no honor or meaning. If you're going to kill me, do it. But know that you're no better than I am."
"I am not like you," I replied.
"You're not, you can't be, but pitying people will be the end of you. You better remember that, Ryuu Okami," he said, falling to his knees.
He seemed to accept his fate as if he knew his death was coming. My dragon saw the familiar face of the Fourth Epic and breathed flames at him. Without a scream or a sign of fear, he burned in flames and died before my eyes. However, we had won the great war.

The Last Science [SE]
[SE has the same content as the original story, split into smaller chunks for easier reading. This story is on a temporary hiatus due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. I work in healthcare and unfortunately no longer have the freetime to continue posting on a regular basis. As soon as our workload decreases, I will return. Thanks for reading! 💙] No one ever knows the whole story. Deep in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, the fading town of Rallsburg stumbles upon an amazing discovery—magic itself. Faced with potentially world-shattering power, the people of Rallsburg keep the secret for themselves. Led by Rachel DuValle, a perpetually underestimated college student with grand ambitions, they seek to found a new society. The world beyond suspects nothing, but magic cannot stay hidden forever. A train arrives in Rallsburg carrying Alden Bensen, a directionless high school graduate. To him, magic could represent meaning for his life, an explanation for his empty existence. This potent force offers anyone the power to change humanity forever—or send it cascading into swift and total annihilation. The Last Science is an ongoing science-fiction / low-fantasy web novel series, focused on the modern world with a twist. New societies bud and grow, but the people who make them up are imperfect and flawed. The story includes elements of mystery, action, crime, interpersonal drama, relationships, philosophy, sociology, politics, and much more, all centered on the perspective characters driving the tale. This is the "Scraps Edition" of the story, where the chapters have been split up into bite-size chunks (roughly 1500-3000 words), for your convenience. The prose has been edited from its original form, with some improvements, but there are no content differences from the original. New chapters will be posted throughout each week starting on Friday and appearing on multiple days thereafter, depending on the length of the chapter. Content Warning (by request): This series delves into some topics and situations which may be upsetting for some readers. In American rating parlance, the narrative would be rated PG-13 (except for language), but some have noted the story can get pretty dark on occasion.
