《The Legend of the North》chapter 122

The silence continues after the question and goes on long enough for a hint of nervousness to well up in Lyaria.
"I will, I'll keep helping you. However, I expect in the future a reward worth much more than mere gold coins.” It may have been a few minutes, but within Grige's head, thousands of thoughts and questions occurred before reaching that decision and, even so, he did not know very well why he had made it. It wouldn't be the first time he betrayed someone so he had no problem repeating it, although collecting the reward would also bring its own problems, it was a much faster path to his ambitions. Despite everything, he decides to support the young beauty in front of him, making doubt his harshness towards women, maybe his brother was right and she represented a weakness that he refused to recognize.
“I don't have a clear idea of my future, but I can assure you that I will return every favor and goodwill that is given to me.” Unconsciously Lyaria shows a formality and grace that is not common in the plebs and this does not go unnoticed by Grige who sighs and surrenders to his decision, there was no going back.
“Good! Now that we have agreed, I think it's better that you tell us some details about this Ezer, not only his physique, but something from his past would also help us to know what we're getting into.” Dartan signals for more beer and settles down to listen to the story.
Lyaria doesn't go into the finer details and just summarizes the information that anyone could get with some time. However, some specific points were enough for the two brothers to confirm what they suspected, they had something big on their hands.

“Emm... if we're not careful we can go to hell. It is fortunate that you managed to camouflage the main feature of the Inmerlan, their hair.” Dartan only speaks when his jar is completely empty in a few gulps.
“It won't last long, if the dye isn't applied again, it's a matter of time before it returns to normal. Though if he's on the islands I don't think they'd recognize him.”
"The problem is if he's in the dungeons." Grige, in the past avoided matters with the nobility whenever he could, although meddling in this was something inevitable to stop being an ordinary man.
“To all this. What is your relationship with him? Is your brother? I mean, your hair being so alike makes it clear that you are family.” Dartan asks something that was as much on his mind as Grige's.
“We're very distantly related by blood, so yes, you could say we're family.” Lyaria does not deny it and on the contrary, she accepts it. Although she never specifies that her blood mixed hundreds or perhaps thousands of years ago, she didn't know for sure. At some point in history, the genes of a race, now extinct, merged with Ezer's family as much as her own.
“Strange heritage from your relatives, it's not uncommon for you to have to wear a hood all the time.” Dartan accepts the explanation, though not without questions.
“How much time is left until the visit to the dungeons?” Lyaria decides to change the subject and get back to what mattered.
“It shouldn't be more than a week, it's hard to know the specific day with the weather outside.” Dartan watches through the window that was next to his table and sees how the snowflakes fall slowly, but steadily.

“That's too much time?” Grige asks after taking a light sip of his beer, during all this time he hadn't touched it and his lips were already beginning to feel dry.
“I don't know for sure... but that he's going to lose his hair color is light.”
"In any case, there is nothing more than preparing for both possibilities. Lyaria and I will take care of how to cross the sea. Brother, I leave the other matter to your discretion.”
“I got this!” Dartan hits his chest with his fist, mockingly imitating the knights greeting and then ordering another drink with a smile, it was clear that he planned to stay in the tavern longer.
“I don't like to pressure the old man, but time is on our neck and there is no much.”
“I'll go with you.” Lyaria follows Grige who heads for the exit.
There were two places where Ezer could be found. However, unconsciously, Lyaria had already ruled out the option of the dungeons and only had thoughts of how to cross the sea. Only time will tell if she made the right decision or not.

Fallout: Vault X
An original novel set in the Fallout universe, written to be accessible to all, featuring unique people and places. Vol.II. out now Fallout: Vault X tells the story of John. A vault dweller, who spent every day of his twenty five years underground. Like his father, and his father before him. Proud to live in the last remaining bastion of humanity, all that survived The Great War of the atomic age. Hidden deep below the surface of the earth, toiling under brutal conditions. Year after year, decade upon decade. All to expand into the natural cave system the Vault occupied, building for the future. However, John knew what his forefathers did not, that everything he’d been taught was a lie. After finishing school at the age of ten, John received his standard issue pipboy. An arm mounted personal computer, worn by everyone in the Vault. Used to coordinate the relentless pace of expansion, needed to work as an apprentice. To learn the craft that would be his life’s work. A noble calling to ensure a future for all that remained of the human race. A quirk of fate saw John equipped not with the crude, clunky, pipboy model his father wore. That almost everyone around him wore. His looked smaller, sleeker, finished in a jet black sheen. And capable of doing far more than its drab counterparts. The world above had been ravaged by atomic flames, yet life clung to its bones. The Red Valley fared better than most in the century since the bombs fell. The clean water and rich soil protected by rolling hills. All spared from direct strikes, for the most part. Life survived here. Trees spawned from charred ground, misshapen, green leaves turned red. Along with simple crops, grown wild at first, then cultivated by the survivors. The scavengers of the old world were inventive, hardy people. All determined to rebuild in the ruins of a world they never knew. In the decades that passed settlements emerged. They grew, spreading along the valley floor. Reclaiming the pre-war remnants of the once industrialised heartland. Salvaging the robotic wonders of a bygone age to build their walls and work their fields. To protect them in the dark of the wasteland. But such things are uncommon in this world, and the rarer something is, the greater its value. And the worth of pre-war technology had not gone unnoticed. The last, real, power in this world rested in the mechanised hands of The Brotherhood of Steel. Forged from the mortally wounded old world military. The Brotherhood used its access to the weapons made for a conflict no one won to strike out into the wastes. Men and women were equipped with advanced armour, aerial transportation, high grade weaponry. Accompanied by the training, strength, and will, to put them to use. They established chapters and set up outputs far and wide. All dedicated to a single purpose. To ensure the technology left abandoned by its long dead creators didn’t fall into the wrong hands. Namely, any hands that were not their own. This is the world John escaped into. A place of horrors brought forth from atomic fire. A place where survival meant battling against the darkness. Fighting a war each day to get to the next. And war...war never changes
