《The Paths of Magick》Lore - The Path of the Soulcerer V: Soulceric Attunement

Soulceric Attunement
Once the Soul is Awakened it starts to Attune to its current host and vice versa. The Soul and the host's connection becomes stronger. This allows for better conscious manipulation of Mana. The Soul can also better communicate with its Corporeal Form. Aura Senses heighten and become more succinct.
Souls collect things throughout their journeys in the Wheel. Each time they reincarnate into a new vessel, they hold all of its memories for a time until they die. The Corporeal vessel dies and the Soul is plunged into the Maelstrom; a storm of primordial Mana that rips at its shell. Though no real damage can be done to the Soul, it still feels all. Its shell is ripped apart for eternity or until it gives in.
Souls give part of themselves up to survive the Maelstrom after their tether to the physical dies. Their memories and Arcanums are highly energy dense. They lose little by little until the Maelstrom relents and they are reincarnated. Souls enter a dreamlike torpor after their tether dies, and their defense systems ignite. They instinctually protect what they think is the most precious until they reincarnate. Souls are travelers of the Wheel with sacred baggage. Soulcerers can tap into that sacred reserve collected through the eons. Souls, though mostly identified as their shell and vessel, are something else entirely. They are not the vessels that carry the lives of their hosts. They are the culminated experiences that bound together to propel themselves unto eternity. They are both the traveler and the baggage. Most Mages that Ascend into Godhood are those that have collected enough experience throughout their lives. Though anyone can Ascend given enough time, rarely that is the case. But that is for another to write. This shall focus on Attunement and not Ascendance.

During Attunement, Mages experience Soul Dreams once more. Though it does not happen only when sleeping. Stepping into the Palace beneath the Waters is the conscious entering of a Spiritual Mindscape. Soul dreams create literal worlds out of Mana. Even their bearer's body is made. The improved connection allows a Soulcerer to focus their attention towards their Soul proper inside the Soul Plane. In there, the Soul Palace is found. The Aether is the bleeding of the Magical into the Mundane. A Soul Palace is the Mundane bleeding into the Magical. Soul Palaces are made and refined by Souls throughout their life times. They are fine tuned to every new host upon Awakening, allowing them to better understand their primordial refuges. Soul Palaces have two major functions. The better understanding of one's Arcanums, and the understanding of their Soul's Desire.
A Soul's Desire is what it focuses on throughout its different iterations. Though it may change throughout the eons, it stays mostly static through one life. It's the culmination of the sacred experiences and Meta-knowledge collected through each cycle of the Wheel. Soulcerers are not obligated to feed into their Desire. But they lose power and insight upon forsaking it. The Desire may be changed to a Soulcerer's current psychology. The Desire is then cannibalized by the Soul and reforms to fit its Corporeal form. Those that once collected the power for revenge through life times may find themselves instead using it to protect others. Those that collected knowledge like sacred water may find in dumped out in exchange for the follies of youth. This exposes a great truth about the immortal Soul.
A Soul may never be destroyed by outside forces, but it can be destroyed by itself. A Soul is as strong as its host. It's the essence of its Corporeal Form. All of its memories, experiences, strengths, and… Weaknesses. Magic is the sacred flame that scours the fat, rendering the truest Self. Melting superfluous flesh, and showing the skeleton of one's being. Those that are weak of will find themselves destroyed upon outside forces, damaging their Souls and evaporating its sacred water collected through eternity. Though one cannot directly harm a Soul, they can make their current Corporeal Form do it for them.

Attunement allows for the conscious entering of one's Soul Palace. In there they can perceive their Arcanums and choose how to progress them and their Desire. A Soulcerer can burn their Arcanums or Desire in turn for power. But in doing so, they risk their Magical Prowess. Soul Palaces can manifest in various different ways, for each person perceives their Soul in a different manner. Arcanums are the same. They may appear as flowers that can be watered, floating suns, runes or anything. Culture, personal belief, and psychology influence their appearance.
Attunement is complete once a Mage has a full connection with their Soul.

Many Minded
Synopsis: Issa Pyxis, Spacer orphan and illegal heretic, graduated from living on the streets to running with a gang years ago, but now it looks like that’s all going to change. Her inheritance, more specifically who—or what—she is, is catching up with her, and on a planet with the Emperor’s inquisitors slinking around in every shadow, nowhere is safe and no one can be trusted. What will she do? A cyberpunk story about identity, loneliness, covert infiltration, evil dystopias, and much more! Features: - Cyborgs and cyberpunk galore - This is indented to be somewhat “rational” and “hard” Sci-Fi story - Original Fiction however parts of my worldbuilding are inspired by other Sci-Fi stories (duh) Rationale: The future is cool, AIs are kickass, and questions about consciousness are simultaneously existential and yet unanswered. To me, this story is a vehicle for exploring these topics, and also, I wanted to write a story where the protagonist was unafraid of themselves and where their self is more like a git-repo than a meat computer. Disclaimer: This story primarily takes place in what we’d describe as a “cyberpunk dystopia” with some extra technocracy, autocracy, and religious fervor thrown into the mix, so there will be some “grittiness” in this story. Caveat emptor. Also, [insert your favorite boilerplate “views expressed” disclaimer here]. I shouldn’t need to say this, but the main character and other characters in my story can be wrong on occasion (gasp!) and the way they view the world isn’t always objective truth (if such a thing even exists) nor do their views and opinions necessarily reflect the views of me, the author. Rage: Crisis / Consequence / ???
Its been ten years since Seth was given his powers, ten years since his town was driven mad by that very same power, and ten years since its source was shunted into his head. A species of energy beings, a people filled with regret for what their entrance onto this world caused. Regret for the deaths that town perpetuated, the devastation they brought, the blow they served to the once proud heroes of this world. Heroes Seth now hopes to join, hopes to heal and atone to for what transpired. But their wounds run deep, their ire sharp, and their acceptance thin. And to top it all off... Seth's power is run far deeper than he knows, and sees his world in a light all its own. This series is my first foray into authoring, with two parts out of at best four if the readership stands. But part three will still book end nicely otherwise. And I'm not stopping till then. It is action heavy with varied and ramping up fight scenes through out. (Book 1 is heavy / Book 2 a little lighter) It is bloody in places, mildly gory in others, and heavily gory in simulated places. Nothing truly horrifying, I think, but be warned. It has trauma. PTSD is a major part of the story, but I will never trust that I got it completely right, so your mileage may vary on how believable or impactful it is. Lastly it has language. Swearing ebbs and flows as the story progresses and attitudes harden or soften. Sometimes bleeding through into the narration... somehow.
