《The Paths of Magick》Lore - The Path of the Sympathist
Advertisement
Mages come in many forms, be they users of sorcery, the spirit arts, arcanistry, or wizardry. Of these variations, there is one that specializes in the binding of sympathetic threads, the sympathist.
Sympathy is heavily tied to wizardry, for both disciplines use composite planes of reality. These planes are the connective tissues of the universe, binding together the physical and metaphysical in twain with their dimensional membranes. The universe can be correctly summarized in the prime-material, the plane made from matter, and the ethereal, the plane made of mana or essence. The metaphysical binds to the material through ley-lines, be they from underfoot, the Nether, and above the clouds, the Aether, or amidst the surface, the Ether.
Elemental planes are those made of elementary mana types (earth, water, air, fire). These culminate as the ethereal plane as a whole. These planes further serve to combine when they meet as well, forming their respective demiplanes, the Nether (earth and fire), the Ether (wind and water), and the Aether (pure animus and fire and wind). There are also other demiplanes such as the Ethereal Mists (fire and water, turning into boiling or warm vapor essence) and the Ashen plane (earth and wind primarily with traces of fire and water). The study of demiplanes is an extensive topic, and as such, will not be heavily focused in this tome.
Sympathy is divided into different schools of thought by way of the respective planes they use. Elementalists use the elemental planes of the spirit to bind and bend matter through the manipulation of the ethereal as both are linked. An elemental sympathist can bend the essence of the earth and thus manipulate the matter to which it is anchored. The most base forms of elementalism are sympathetic in nature.
Wellfontian sympathists use the Well-font, the subconscious of the universe itself. These are the 'True' sympathists. Theirs is the plane that most allows one to link together two things and entities in sympathetic bindings. When one holds a belief dearly, it etches itself onto their spirit. As the spirit slowly dissipates, it releases these beliefs as well. As for all things related to life, mana is cyclical in nature. It must circulate through the universe. Such wayward essence etched with belief and thought bleeds through the fabric of reality, being caught by the net known as the Well-font.

Wellfontian sympathy is remarkable in its ability to affect objects and entities without 'direct' contact. This class of sympathy still requires contact in that the binding uses the Well-font as a medium, but the mage does not need to physically touch their desired target themselves. The Well-font best responds to belief and faith. The more one can believe in something, the more the Well-font responds in turn. As such, a sympathist needs to augment their belief with physical objects related to their targets and mental techniques to further enhance their magic.
There is also Weavian sympathy or weaving sympathy. This school of sympathetic magic works in conjunction with the Wellfontian school that they are both considered one and the same. The Weave binds all and works as an extension of the Wellfont, and as such, they are but one entity. No different than a body and mind. The being is the entirety.
The primary resources of a sympathist are two-fold: sympathetic bonds and energy. Sympathetic pathways serve to connect but may also be used to distribute energy. Energy cannot be created* (magic breaks the laws of the prime quite frequently, but for now, let us use this statement to further elaborate). It must be taken from a source or closed system and applied to another.
Sympathy works by distributing energy between two entities or bodies of matter. It can be energy in the form of heat, fire, force, or sound. Even cold, as one could simply siphon heat from one object to another and thus "transfer" cold into a body of matter. As always, nothing is perfect. Sympathetic pathways are as robust as belief allows them to be. And depending on how close one believes an object to be with another body, that too influences the amount of wasted energy.
The energy is not destroyed but instead is simply spread out from the sympathetic pathway, mainly through the air. Though, one must remember that a sympathetic bond is not physical. If one transfers a flame into an object through sympathy, a line of fire will not appear between the caster and the target. Though, other sympathists, sorcerers, or mentalists could still sense the use of sympathy.

Old Version - The First Magician
INDEFINITE HIATUS I always seem to make these too long when I ask for peoples opinions so I’m not gonna try an exciting description anymore but instead just give you an idea of what to expect. First off, this is my 2nd attempt at a story but my foundation for this one is much better than the 1st already and I see this going much further and so far its coming together much faster and easier. So please excuse me if things are not up to publishing standards. Also I tend to confuse your, you’re and so on so sorry to people that triggers ahead of time. The First Magician follows the story of 15 year old Alex in a post apocalyptic rpg-ish world in the near future. Earth was transformed, monsters appeared and people began being able to use Ki but could not figure out how to use magic. Alex ends up becoming the first human able to use magic through a series of events and sets in motion events that will change the very future of the human race. He will be somewhat OP simply because he is the only human (at least to start, who knows about later?) who is able to use mana. Many classic RPG elements have been removed. I didn’t want the story to be like all of the other lit rpg stories on RRL but it also makes the writing easier for me hence the watering down of rpg elements. UPDATES: I am doing this to relieve stress and for fun so I will release chapters when I can. So far though ive managed to keep up with 2 most days. CONTENT WARNINGS: There will be some light language but it won't be insane. I might have some gore later on but am unsure and the same for the sexual content. Sexual content isn't super likely as I doubt I can write it well but I put the tag so people cant yell about it if I add some in the future but forgot to add the tag. COVER ART: Yes it is from the anime Log Horizon. It is a good representation of what earth looks like despite it not being many years in the future. DISCORD: https://discord.gg/s6V3hGV

Runicka: Tournament of Monsters (A GameLit Card Game Fantasy)
The runes are changing, and with it, the game itself changes. Taygion Ardwella finds himself stranded, alone, and on the run from some very determined guards who claim Tay's stolen from them. They're right, but that shouldn't mean Tay has to give back what he took. He's only been in Stormwall for a week and already, he's earning the ire of the most powerful and notorious House that controls the city's underground. And when their scion challenges Tay to a duel of cards, Tay will find himself thrust into a game of sorcery and strategy as he attempts to both find a way out of this mess and find his own way in the world. To do both, he'll need to learn to accept guidance and coaching where it's sorely needed, craft a deck of unimaginable power, and not die whenever his opponents try and cheat him out of a hard-earn victory. But not all is as it seems in the shadows of Stormwall, and if Tay can figure out the importance of what it is he's stolen, he may just have a chance at saving the game of Runicka. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Runicka: Tournament of Monsters is a high fantasy, card game-based adventure novel with enough magic, worldbuilding, and characters to fill a Sanderson series. I would consider it a part of the GameLit subgenre. This series in particular is not an isekai, and will start and end in a high fantasy setting complete with its own lore and backstory. It is a progression fantasy, and I am writing it inspired by all the Yu-Gi-Oh mangas/animes, and all the hours I've invested/wasted (depending on who you ask) playing TCGs like Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic: The Gathering. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is a work in progress. In your journey through Stormwall alongside Tay, you'll probably find typos, grammatical errors, and maybe a confusing sentence every once in a while (although I hope to keep these to a minimum). That said, comments and suggestions on where I can improve are not only encouraged but greatly appreciated. And finally, expect new chapters every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~**Currently on a small hiatus. I have a bit of a workplace crisis going on. I'm still writing, but I don't have time to polish and publish. Chapters will return on a regular basis soon though!!**
