《The subtle World of Terraria》4-49. Dragon problems - 2.

3rd person POV:
Evan valiantly lured the dragon away from the castle and into a picturesque forest. He effortlessly dodged Ruby flames by grappling from trees to trees but alas, their fierce battle wrought destruction upon the tranquil surroundings, and his friends, weary from the day's events, could only watch from a distance, anxious for Evan's safety.
Evan came to a halt, satisfied that they had put enough distance between themselves and the castle. Suddenly, a ball of molten lava came hurtling towards him, but he deftly rolled out of the way. Ruby landed with a loud thud as the ground shook for a moment, looking at Evan with hungry eyes. Perhaps devouring him would be more satisfying than simply burning him alive.
A tempest of fire raged behind Ruby, as she and Evan faced each other in a battle of wills. The dragon's eyes glinted with a ferocious hunger, while Evan's gaze behind his black aviators remained steady, cool and cocky.
“Yea, I can’t come up with any cool one-liners so let’s just finish this shall we?” Said Evan, his shotguns gleaming in the firelight. He fired his shotguns and a loud bang reverberated in the forest but the bullets ricocheted off the dragon's scales, and she bared her razor-sharp fangs. Without warning, she dove towards Evan, her gaping jaws poised to swallow him whole.
Instead of running away, Time seemed to slow down for Evan as he faced the beast, his reflexes kicked in and he charged towards it with a fearless determination. He slid under her menacing bite with the grace of a matador, narrowly escaping the jaws of death.
Evan smirked. Putting all his Mana into a Mana ball And giving it the fundamentals of ‘damage’ and ‘Seismic’ again. The dragon searched where her pray had run off too while Evan ran towards the middle of her torso, once there He performed an uppercut with the Mana ball in hand.
With a sly grin on his face, Evan channeled all his mana into a ball of pure destruction. He infused it with the elements of damage and seismic energy, giving it the power to level mountains. The dragon was distracted, scanning the horizon forwhere it’s pray had run off to, as Evan darted forward underneath its massive jaws. The next moment, he was standing between the dragon's hind legs, ready to strike.
“SHORYUKEN!” With a fierce shout, Evan launched the mana ball upwards in a powerful uppercut. It slammed into the dragon's belly with the force of a thousand earthquakes, sending the beast reeling up with a deafening roar. The shockwave was so great that some of the fire behind Ruby had completely extinguished.

The damage numbers popped up only visible to Evan as he was satisfied with the amount of damage he dealt, Ruby Shrieked with pain as she quickly tried to regain her balance by flapping her wings wildly. It didn't take her long to get her balance back, only to be surprised by a giant blue magic circle appearing above her. Ruby's sharp eyes widened, as a massive iceberg fell out of the sky and slammed down on top of her, crushing her under its weight. The dragon let out a terrible scream as it fell from the sky, sending fragments of ice flying in all directions. Evan managed to grapple himself out of the way just in time as Ruby hit the ground with a deafening crash, destroying everything around her.
Evan was a bit confused, “I didn’t do that.” He talked to himself before searching around for the perpetrator. He finally saw a number of people’s silhouettes from the burning forest, running towards him.

Evan was confused, “I didn’t do that.” He said to himself before searching around for the perpetrator. One side of the forest was burning, the one where Ruby was, but on the opposite side, the forest was colourful and lush. He searched for the perpetrator on both sides, his eyes scanning the normal and burning trees for any sign of movement. And then he saw them: a group of silhouettes, running towards him with purpose and determination.
“No one messes with Shishou on my watch!” Screamed Lucy with a face full of sweat in amidst the people.
Evan smiled, “There’s my backup!” before he waved his hand and screamed loudly so his voice could reach them. “HEY! WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG?!”
Evan had repeated his previous mistake of ignoring the dragon when he thought he had her under control. His friends saw the dragon standing up again and tried to warn him but it was already too late, the very second, he looked back at the dragon, the dragon chomped him right up in her huge maw.
Everyone witnessed it and were horrified by it. "Was this really Evan's end?" Everyone thought. One of his legs was still dangling outside her mouth, reinforcing their thoughts. But just them, a miracle happened. Not only was Evan fine but he had enough strength to counter the dragon's strength. He used both of his hands and one of his legs inside her maw to slowly but surely keep her mouth open from chomping him down her gullet
Everyone was impatient as they made sprinted down towards them. Their friend's life was on the line but they were all pretty far away from him. Except for Tifa who was the fastest, jumping from trees to trees, without stop to save Evan from the mouth of death.
“Hey! You don’t eat the main meal before appetizers!” Evan screamed from inside her mouth as his hands and legs trembled under the strength of a dragon. Evan was having a hard time keeping her mouth open but he suddenly had an idea, He let go of one of his hands from the room of Ruby’s mouth to throw down a couple grenades he kept in case of emergencies, “Here’s your appetizers!”
At that time, Tifa finally caught up to them and jumped towards the dragon maw. “Spit him out!” She screamed as she unsheathed her twin blades and stabbed them both in the mouth of the dragon, Ruby groaned in pain before her mouth lit up to spit out fire.
Both Evan and Tifa knew this wasn’t a good situation until the grenades exploded down in her throat with a muffled boom as the shockwave blew them both away. The impact threw Evan and Tifa to the ground, rolling uncontrollably like a tumbleweed caught in a gust of wind.

Once Evan stopped rolling away, he saw the damage numbers and noticed that Ruby's inside wasn't as tough as her outside.
Everyone got onto their position. Genuinely worried about his condition while Ruby flapped her wings and started flying.
Evan POV:
SON OF A BITCH! How am I supposed to beat her if she keeps trying to chomp me up?
“Ugh.” I groaned as I stood up and saw everyone surrounding me and Tifa. I say everyone but it’s just Elizabeth, Daisy, their commanders, like a hundred soldiers, Lucy and Oswald. Oh, and also Tifa who was groaning in pain on the ground next to me.
“Are you okay!?” Said Elizabeth as she kneeled down to check up on her daughter.

Tifa just groaned while I talked bitterly, “Yea, I’m okay too.”
“Watch Out!” Said Oswald as we all looked towards ruby who started spewing a waterfall of molten lava on top of us again, Daisy was quick again and popped her bubble up. I made sure to give her a couple mana balls so she doesn’t run out of battery.
She took it and looked at me and said firmly. “Whatever we're doing...... Please save Evangeline.”
Who in the hell is… Oh wait, that's Ruby isn't it?
“Let’s see,” I said as I stared pondering, “There may be a way to save her without killing her but we need to make her get unconscious first.”
“Where's the rest of the soldiers?” I asked Trish as he quickly replied.
“Either helping evacuate or protecting the castle in case the cultists decides to attack now when we’re the most vulnerable.”
Oh yea, I almost forgot about them.
I saw a couple cracks form on Daisy’s bubble shield as screamed at me, “The bubble won't hold long! What's the Plan!?”
“I told you all before right? Elizabeth will rope ruby down and we'll all attack her at the same time until she gets knocked out!”
“Won’t work.” Tifa said, standing up with a wince and Elizabeth's help. “Her scales are too hard. Even if we somehow do damage her then it will be just a scratch.”
“Really, ah shit… then… Ummm.” I was racking my brain for another plan but Daisy’s bubble shield cracked again and shattered like glass.
Uh oh.
The air sizzled and crackled with intense heat under Ruby’s fiery inferno but Daisy quickly conjured up a magical shield that shimmered with a bright blue hue. The flames crashed against it and spread away to the sides. The burning fire and magma started slowly surrounding us.
“Everyone! We'll think of something on the way. For now, We have to beat her into submission!]
Everyone had ran away to safety as I grabbed Daisy under my arm again and grappled away the very second her second shield broke. Ruby threw all her blood lust towards me, so I pushed Daisy out of the way and decided to grapple at her since she was flying low and my grapple could latch on to her.
My grappling hook hit her and I unlocked a new skill.
*Skill Unlocked: Monster bringer*
Monster Bringer: Grapple the target towards you instead of going towards the target.
Woah, Can I use that right now?
“Monster Bringer!” I screamed out the name of the skill like I was the protagonist of some unnamed anime.
Ruby let out a piercing scream and thrashed her body violently as I reeled her in towards us.
“Wait a second.” I realized later what my actions had done.
Ruby was just about to fall on top of everyone and squish everyone, including me.
I DIDN'T THINK THIS THROUGH! SHE'S GONNA SQUISH EVERYONE!
A giant thick Vine quickly grew up from the ground and slapped Ruby away from us.
“Oh Shi-! Good job Elizabeth!” I gave a thumbs up towards Elizabeth as she nodded and looked towards everyone else.
“Okay everyone! On my command we'll-”
She was trying to say something, but I saw Ruby get up and I couldn’t let that chance go away, “I'll see you all there!”
“Wait, Evan, No!” I didn't wait for Elizabeth plan and grappled towards Ruby who just stood back up on her four legs.
Ruby panicked as she saw me quite literally fly towards her. In a desperate attempt, she tried spewing down a magma river towards me.
Since I'm in the air I can't evade, but I can still shield charge my way out of her attack. I used the charge ability to charge to the side instead of at her to dodge her fire breath. I rolled as soon as I landed down on the ground and started my running charge again.
Ruby's next move was swinging her tail at me from the side but my reactions were fast and I jumped to evade her large attack.
The powerful swing of her tail caused a cloud of dust and debris to erupt beneath me, some of which were still smoldering with the remnants of the dragon's flames.
I took out my giant ‘Blood Butcherer’ sword and grappled on top of her head. I didn’t let go of the grapple hook so I remained latched on top of her head, she started swinging her head to throw me off but it didn’t affect me.
I tried thrusting the sword down on her head but my sword just repelled off so started smacking her head with the sword.

Ugh, She has too much defence, this won't quite cut it.
I looked back for support and saw Tifa and Trish running here while all the archers looked ready to fire their arrows. Ruby was still trying to shake me of her head with no progress.
3rd person POV:
Evan held on to Ruby's head, distracting her from Trish and Tifa who were closing in on them. Tifa jumped towards Evan and Trish shoved his Spear between the dragon's Toes.
“Dragon's scales don't grow between their toes and are weak on their belly all the way to their butt! Attack There!] Trish screamed out as he pulsated his Spear with lightning magic. A yellow Jolt of electricity went into Ruby making her scream in pain.
"Holy Shit! I can be the infamous Butt Stabber!" Evan was in his own world while Tifa stabbed both of her Silver blades in the same eye of the dragon.

Evan saw the damage numbers and was surprised, But he also saw that the blindness duration was only a couple minutes so they had to act fast.
Ruby Screamed loudly in pain, shaking her head much more violently making Tifa fall off with her twin short sword. Tifa stumbled but recovered immediately. “Evan! On her Highness command, we have to find cover!” Tifa screamed trying desperately to make get Evan off the raging dragon.
“Gotcha!” Evan finally agreed as he jumped back from Ruby's head. Just that time, Ruby slammed her foot down towards Trish who had his spear stuck in between her claws. Trish had backed away but the shockwave knocked him away down to the ground. He looked up to see Ruby charge up to spew fire at him but Tifa came up in the nick of and grabbed him towards safety.
The earth where Trish had fallen moments before was nothing but a smoldering crater, the grass and dirt vaporized in the searing heat.
“Thanks, owe you one.” Said Trish to Tifa.
“Don’t mention it.” The both searched where Evan had gone and saw him standing infront of the dragon like it was a standoff, “Evan No!” Tifa screamed but Evan had other plans.
Evan conjured up mana balls in both of his hands before he started monologing again, “The mana of my right hand and mana of my left, Put the two of them together and what do you get!” Evan slammed both the shimmering mana balls together. “Mana Explosion!” He screamed as he threw the newly created Mana ball towards Ruby.
Ruby was blind but she could sense the oncoming volatile mana that was dangerous and covered her head with her wings.

A loud and giant shockwave reverberated everywhere that all the nearby fire went out. Tifa and Trish were knocked back and Evan was blown away from the aftermath.
Ruby was hurt and blind, But that was nothing to a Dragon like her. She just needed a little time to recover her blindness and then she could start her rampage again. Which was why she covered her head with her wings, to recover her eyes.
“Now!” Elizabeth shouted and four Thick Vines Burst out of the ground and Tangled on each one of the Dragon's Legs.
A barrage of Arrows and Magical spells were shot towards Ruby but none of them dealt any real actual damage.
“I’ll Show You all why I'm the Pupil of Shishou!” Shouted Lucy as Oswald came up from behind her.
“To be fair he hasn't taught us anything besides alchemy right now.” Oswold retorted.
“Oswald!”
“Ah! Yes! I'm Ready!” Though Lucy and Oswald have some Childish Bickering between them. There's still a reason why Lucy is known as the youngest alchemical grandmaster and Oswald as her apprentice.
Lucy and Oswald Held both of their hands, their fingers, tangling between each other as they closed their eyes, chanting an incantation. This method was called Dual chanting where their both mana pools gets combined to unleash a powerful spell which one can’t unleash by himself.
During their incantation, Tifa and Trish came back safely but Evan was nowhere to be found while Ruby was recovering her eyesight behind her wings.
“Where's Evan!?” Tifa shouted at Elizabeth.
“He's not with You!?” Elizabeth was confused, as she had sended her daughter to bring Evan back.
“He must've been blasted away from his own magic attack. Bold but a risky move. He should be still be nearby.”
With Worries in her Eyes, Tifa really wanted to confirm Evan's situation but Lucy and Oswald had almost completed their incantation and everyone was to step behind them including her.
“Terra bond break!” Lucy and Oswald shouted in sync as a black singularity conjured up right above the dragon. It started sucking everything nearby and light itself, distorting the image of everything around like it was getting sucked into the singularity.
Unfortunately, Evan was right behind the dragon away from everybody’s eyes.
“What the fuck is that a black hole!? I just blacked out for a second and you guys spawned a black hole!? Who made a black hole!?!” He just started screaming until he realized that something was wrong. “Wait a second… IT'S SUCKING ME IN TOO!!!!! HEEEELLLLPPPP!!!!!”

A New Leaf
When people mention fantasy games and RPGs, they usually think of goblins, elves, orcs, dwarves and magic (apart from the percentage that gets an image of an anti-tank weapon in their mind, I will respectfully put those individuals aside for now). But what if you get neither of those (not even the weapon, I know, sad)? And what if you end up playing as something that doesn't look like an animal at all? And what if the said game you were playing weren't actually a game, but real life changed by irresponsible, beyond-mortal beings? Follow the (mis)adventures of "player" 13241, a.k.a. Treant, as he experiences what it's like to be a walking magical fruit maker (among other things). When the world goes to hell and back, plants are the ones that remain, right?
