《Azure Chronicles》Chapter 105: Echoes Before A Colossal Battle Against A Bygone Weapon

Zuno slashed a komoalark in half with a light mana sword, followed by him light dashing out the way of some attacking komoalark before he sliced them into pieces. Zuno clicked his shoulder and turned towards Zalkutaro as the sound of the calm melody started to introduce rock-like aspects to it.
The Alpha Komoalark (An even larger Komoalark with darker scales and a rainbow horn on its head) continuously swung its claws at Zalkutaro, but every time its claws were close to hitting Zalkutaro, he interjected a rock-sounding strum into his harp strumming and the Alpha Komoalark's claws veered entirely off course and missing Zalkutaro.
"I don't mean to be rude but shouldn't you be taking this more seriously?" Zuno asked as he sliced another komoalark's head off.
"Trust me my good friend for I am treating this with the utmost seriousness, but due to the nature of my azure abilities, I am incapable of fighting as directly as my counterpart," Zalkutaro stated as he continued to defect the Alpha Komoalark's attacks in rthym with his harp strums. Zuno nodded before he twirled one of his light mana swords and hurled it at the Alpha Komoalark's head.
The Alpha Komoalark mindlessly swung at and continued to be unable to hit Zalkutaro; the Alpha Komoalark was so fixated on landing a single hit on Zalkutaro that it didn't notice Zuno's light mana sword had raced past its head until its rainbow horn fell past its head. Zalkutaro caught the rainbow horn with his foot and smirked at the Alpha Komoalark.
The Alpha Komoalark roared and bulked up its arm before it hurled its arm at Zalkutaro. Zalutaro simply placed his fingers together and snapped his finger, causing the Alpha Komoalark to freeze. The Alpha Komoalark remained frozen in its position, its body mimicking the movements of an unoiled machine, as Zalkutaro raised his dawnite handheld harp to the Alpha Komoalark's face.

"Bang," Zalkutaro uttered jokingly as the grey moon-shaped tattoos on his palms lit up; grey mana particles swept out from the tattoo and were soaked up by the mana strings of Zalkutaro's dawnite harp. Zalkutaro primed his strimming fingers and pulled back all the mana strings, but as he was about to release the strings he paused. Zalkutaro and Zuno looked at each other.
"You sensed that as well, I take it?" Zalkutaro asked, to which Zuno nodded.
A deep rumble emanated from the deepest parts of Lake Vesovian, and the lake's surface slightly wobbled. The floating duo watched the waves on the water's surface gradually increase to such ferocity they appeared like water rapids.
"I wonder if...," Zalkutaro managed to utter before a large geyzer of water erupted by the Ancient Tower, and a pillar of golden metal pierced through the water as it washed over the pillar. More pillars erupted from the water, each constantly covered in clusters of position-shifting and morphing cubes. Another pillar bursted out from under the swarm of komoalarks and propelled them into the sky.
"Well, damn," Zalina uttered as Zalroth jumped out from the hole in the Ancient Tower right before it closed up. Zalroth created a small magic barrier beneath his feet before he lept off it into the air. Zalkutaro sighed before he hopped onto the small magic barrier and lept after Zalroth; Zuno perplexedly itched one of his horns before flying after Zalroth and Zalkutaro as more golden metal pillars pierced out from Lake Vesovian.
Zalroth rose into the air, and the second his ascent ended, he created a large magic barrier beneath his feet. Zalkutaro whistled, and he and Zuno warp above the magic barrier. Everyone look down through the magic barrier and watched as the golden metal pillars and the Ancient Tower contorted violently before slamming into each other.

"Yo! What's going on down there?!" Destiny shouted out excitedly as she and Kara intently watched the Ancient Tower morph its form. Kara was about to speak but was cut off by Vivo as he broke free from her grasp. Vivo transformed into his human form and increased the size of his wings. Vivo picked up all the kid-sized beings (Kara, Destiny, Maru, Xeplia, Kunai, and Kai) on Zalroth's tails aside from the sleeping Chronia and Zalina.
"I shall take the children to safety, and then we'll secure the perimeter, Master Zalroth," Vivo stated. Zalroth nodded, picking up Chronia with one hand and placing her on the magic barrier before he retracted his tails.
"Alright," Zalroth said as he removed his fur coat. Vivo bowed his head before he flew off with the utmost haste. Zallino took off from Zalroth's shoulder and transformed into his human form. Mimi and Zalina jumped up at Zallino and grabbed onto his hands as he flew after Vivo. Zalroth turned his head and looked Kara in the eyes as Vivo carried her and the others away.
"I know you didn't ask it yet, but the answer is Lola's it now!" Zalroth proclaimed while giving her a thumbs up. Kara's eyes sparkled like someone who had just been told they won the highest prized lottery, and she whispered something to Destiny, which made her say no way.
Zalroth smirked and tied his fur coat around his waist, as Chronia climbed up Zalroth and lazily clung to his back.
"Why'd you punt- put me on the floor?" Chronia mumbled, in a half-asleep state, before she went right back to sleeping like a baby. Zuno stared through the magic barrier.
"Not to be rude, but I'd appreciate some enlightenment on the situation," Zuno said as he watched a large amount of the Ancient Tower emerge from Lake Vesovian.
"As would I, Zalroth.". Zalroth lightly itched his cheek and quietly chuckled as he thought over how to explain it as quickly as possible.
"You know those giant mechas from that anime where they fight monsters called daemon crawls?" Zalroth asked.
"Understood," Zuno uttered as he unsheathed Novathane and Hakai no Michi. Zuno waited for a few seconds before glancing over at Zalroth to see he had a surprised look on his face.
"What?". Zalroth cleared his throat and shook his head.
"Nothing... just didn't expect you to have watched such a recent anime... but I assume Callie forced you to watch it, right?". Zuno remained silent and averted his gaze from Zalroth, making Zalroth raise an eyebrow.
"Force is putting it very lightly.". Zalroth put on a crooked smile while sweating a bit.
"But it was still a good watch... right?".
"It was... introspective if nothing else.".
"And what more could you ask for from an anime about giant mechas fighting giant insects from space?" Zalkutaro asked rhetorically with a smug grin on his face. As the trio's conversation came to an end, a bright golden light began to shine from beneath their feet, and before they could even look down, a giant building-sized golden metal fist smashed through the magic barrier like it was a thin piece of ice. The trio was narrowly warped out of the way of the giant metal fist thanks to Zalkutaro, and they all began to plummet towards Lake Vesovian as six large oval-shaped glowing golden eyes stared them down.

Synergy
Dear Inspector, Please accept this letter as my formal resignation from being a Player. Hey! Laugh all you want, but I had to try. With no rules down here, who's to say that I can't resign? Anyway, my reasons are simple: I'm neither a gamer nor a hero. You got the wrong person for the job. Sure, the pay is decent and I could pretty much live like a king if, you know, I wasn't so busy trying to survive. I have major concerns about the demonic dagger bound to my soul too. Come to think of it, I've never asked to be transported to this fantasy land either and would like you to return me home, thank you very much. I don't want supernatural powers, I don't want to complete quests after quests, and I don't want to be your test subject anymore. What? I'm not whining, you're whining. Stop making excuses and let me leave already. Thank you for your understanding, and I hope you'll find a better replacement after I'm gone for good. Sincerely,Randel, the Mad Painter What to expect from Synergy: --> Some GameLit elements are presented subversively. If you want the protagonist to “play the game” properly, this might not be the story for you.--> No filler chapters; the story's structure is already plotted out. It's going to have six story arcs.--> Character development happens slowly, over many chapters. Don't expect a perfect protagonist right off the bat.--> Some romance, but it will never be the main focus.--> Humor and dark elements in equal measure, but not to the extent that I’d label this story as “Comedy” or “Grimdark”. ... and lots and lots of Author's Notes. See you on the other side of the portal!
