《The Legacy of Gilgamesh》Chapter 22 Rise of the Hero King

Rico gazed upon the scene of destruction before him, the bodies strewn about the battlefield, the blood and debris littering the ground. He felt a sense of contempt and disgust at the senseless violence that had occurred. But as he surveyed the scene, he couldn't help but think that these people, these warriors who had fought and died, were not innocent. They had chosen to go to war, to fight and kill for their tribe.
Everywhere he looked, he saw evidence of the brutal wars that plagued the land. The ground was littered with the bones of the fallen, a grim reminder of the endless cycle of violence that consumed the tribes of the plain. The wars between tribes were brutal and relentless, with no mercy shown to the defeated. Even individual fights to the death were commonplace, as the strong preyed on the weak in a never-ending struggle for survival.
Rico was an observer, and observer with a deep sense of empathy, he felt the pain and suffering of the people affected by the wars. He knew that this kind of hunt couldn't continue forever. The plain was a desolate wasteland, with nothing but death and destruction in every corner. He couldn't stop the violence by joining it, He needed a different approach, He would have to rely on his own wisdom to find a solution and to carve out a new path for the future of the Humans of Gaia. He envisioned a future where the tribes of the plain could live in peace, where the cycle of violence could be broken and a new civilization could be built.
The thought of sparking the flame of civilization was daunting to Rico. He knew it would be a difficult path, but he was determined to find a way.
When Rico first learned that the people on the Eden Plain were slaughtering their own kind for food, he felt a deep sense of revulsion and disgust. He couldn't understand how anyone could resort to such a barbaric act, and he was determined to put an end to it.
But as he spent more time on the plain, he began to understand the reasoning behind the practice. He realized that the people of the plain were not to blame for their actions, they were simply trying to survive in a harsh and unforgiving environment. The plain was a desolate wasteland, with limited resources and no way to escape. There was only so much food to go around, and the people had no choice but to turn to one another for sustenance.

The west of the plain was an endless mountain range, and the east was overrun by dangerous animal groups. The people were blocked in, unable to defeat the herd or move over the mountain. They were trapped on the plain, with no way to escape or go to the outside world.
As Rico looked at the situation logically, he realized that the people of the plain were trapped in a cycle of violence and desperation. They had no other choice but to resort to cannibalism in order to survive. He understood that it was a tragic and unfortunate situation, but he also recognized that it was not the fault of the people themselves. They were simply trying to make the best of a bad situation.
With this understanding, Rico set out to find a solution that would break the cycle of violence and desperation on the plain.
When Rico first placed the people on the Eden Plain, it was with the intention of providing them with access to rich resources that would help them thrive and flourish. He envisioned a utopia where the people could build a great civilization.
However, as he continue his research, Rico began to realize that the terrain of the plain was not as hospitable as he had hoped. The surrounding mountains and the dangerous animal groups in the east made it nearly impossible for the people to leave the plain and expand. This left them isolated and trapped, with no way to access the resources they needed to survive.
Rico soon realized that the very resources that he had intended to be a blessing, had in fact become a curse. The isolation of the plain had hindered humanity's future and the people were left to struggle and fight for survival in a brutal and unforgiving environment.
As he looked back at all that had occurred, Rico couldn't help but feel a sense of guilt and responsibility for the state of the plain. He knew that his actions had led to this tragic situation, and he couldn't help but wonder if things could have been different. But now, it was too late. The people were trapped on the plain, and Rico could only watch as they struggled to survive.
He knew that he could never fully atone for the consequences of his actions. The Eden Plain had become a place of death and destruction, and Rico was left to bear the weight of his guilt for the rest of his days.
"What are you?"
A human voice suddenly came from nearby, spoken in an ancient tongue. He turned to see a young tribal human, standing before him with fear in his eyes. The boy was covered in blood and dirt, a survivor of the brutal battle that had just taken place.

Rico's heart ached as he looked upon the boy, surrounded by the remnants of the massacre. Blood was everywhere, staining the ground and the air was thick with the stench of death. Rico was afraid of staining his clothes, so he hovered above the ground, observing the scene with a heavy heart.
The boy looked upon Rico with confusion and fear, unable to understand his strange clothes and his ability to hover. He must have been thinking that Rico was a monster.
Rico wanted to reach out to the boy, to offer him comfort and help in some way, but he knew that his presence was only adding to the boy's confusion and fear. Using his power Rico could see the name and a brief history of the young human called Auther.
Rico stood tall and powerful, the dark clouds swirling around him as lightning crackled in the sky. His voice boomed like thunder as he spoke. "I am God. I am not here to save your tribe, but to guide you on your path."
Auther's eyes widened with rage, tears streaming down his face as he screamed. "Why did you let them die then? Why did you stand idly by while my family was slaughtered and my tribe was decimated?"
Rico's face was stoic, his voice steady and firm. "I am not here to save you from the consequences of your actions, but to teach you to become stronger and rise above them. I cannot intervene in the natural order of things, for to do so would disrupt the balance of the universe."
Auther's fists clenched tightly, his voice trembling with emotion. "How can you call that balance when innocent lives are taken? How can you stand there and say that you are God when you do nothing to help us?"
Rico's gaze was steady, his voice filled with wisdom. "I am not here to help you, but to guide you. To teach you to help yourself. You must learn to rise above the suffering and find your own strength. Only then will you truly understand the meaning of being a God."
Auther's eyes widened, his heart racing as he realized the truth in Rico's words. He slowly stood to his feet, his voice filled with determination. "I will learn. I will rise above this suffering and become stronger. I will find my own strength and make a difference in this world."
Rico nodded, a small smile on his lips.
"Auther, as a being created by my hand, you possess within you the same power that I possess. The power to shape your own destiny and the destiny of those around you. I believed that we are not in control of what happens to us, but we are in control of how we respond to it. And so, it is not for me to intervene and seek revenge on the Alan tribe for their actions. It is for you, as a thinking and capable being, to take control of your own fate and find a way to bring peace to your people.
"But do not be mistaken, Auther, food is not scarce. It is all around us, in the earth and in the sky. It is a matter of perspective and understanding. 'It's not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters.' It is the same with food. It is not a question of whether it is available, but whether you are able to see it and take it for yourself.
"And so, I invite you to follow me and let me show you the world from a different perspective. With my guidance, and the power within yourself, you will be able to solve the problems that plague your people, not just the problem of war, but also the problem of food scarcity."
As Rico spoke, he reached out his hand and grabbed Auther, lifting him into the sky with his energy. Auther felt a sense of weightlessness as he soared above the earth, watching the things on the ground shrink into insignificance. He felt amazement and fear at the same time. Can a man truly fly?
"Do not be afraid, Auther," Rico reassured him. "With me by your side, falling is the least of your worries. Trust in yourself, and in the power within you. Together, we will discover the answers you seek."
As Rico spoke, Auther looked down curiously, taking in the vast expanse of the world below and contemplating the wisdom Rico had imparted to him. He knew that the path ahead would be difficult, but with Rico’s guidance and the power within himself, he felt a newfound determination to bring peace and prosperity to this world.

After the Long Burn
After the longest exodus in human history, a terrible accident threatens to turn the salvation of humanity into its most desperate struggle for survival. From the ashes of calamity rises a new human story. A frustrated scientist dedicates her life to recreating the Earth in alien soil, while another is gunned down for his sin and sets off a chain of events culminating in a desperate escape across the void for an opportunity at redemption. Around a distant moon a deep space miner stumbles onto a secret, the key to which lies buried inside his own tortured mind. After the Long Burn is an anthology of short science fiction stories set in the distant Ionad System. Author's Note: I thought I might try something a little different with this story. Rather than one story, it is six stories of varying length, each taking a slightly different perspective to tell a larger story. Some are more actioney, others more cerebral but I hope there will be something for everyone. Stories over 7000 words, with the exception of the titular After the Long Burn, will be published in two parts. I anticipate an upload schedule of one part every other day.
