CHAPTER 46:
"You just call my name, I'll be there in two." ~Everything About You, One Direction.

HARRY'S POV
Today was the day, the day of the talent show auditions. And to say I was a bit nervous would be an understatement. Sure, I'd been practicing all week, and Zayn, and all of the other lads and Dani were confident that I'd do well.
But I wasn't. 'Cos this will be the first time I'm going to sing in front of someone who isn't my friend or my family. I really don't know if I can do this. But then, I think about the deal that Zayn and I made, the promise.
And I have to do this, more for Zayn than for me.
I was currently pacing around backstage of the auditorium, waiting for my name to be called out. Some guy named Isaac was auditioning right now, and boy did he sound confident. I don't know if I can be like that.
"Okay, Haz. Stop pacing! You'll do great," Dani scolded me, placing her hands on my shoulders. Niall, Louis and Dani were all backstage with me here, to support me like the great friends they were. Liam and Zayn were playing the season's last warm up game today, which led up to the season final. So they couldn't be here right now.
"Yeah, alright," I breathed out shakily, ruffling my curls.
"You'll be fine, Harry. There aren't even any people here except the judges," Niall comforted me, peeking out of the curtains. He pulled back, his eyes wide. "Um, a bit more people than the judges I guess..."
I frowned at his words, and took a peek as well, gulping nervously as I saw that almost half the auditorium was full. Oh God, why?

Louis patted my shoulder as he noticed me almost starting to hyperventilate. "Calm down, Hazzabear. It'll be fine. Just imagine you're all alone, singing in your room, singing to Zayn, whatever floats your boat," he shrugged and I chuckled lightly.
"Thanks Lou, Niall and Dani. You guys are the best."
They all shot me smiles and went to take seats in the audience. Oh, boy. I was alone now. I once again repeated one of those vocal exercises, running my sweaty palms on my skinny jeans.
Alright, alright. So, one guy was now performing, and after that, another girl, and then me. I peeked out of the curtain again, at the- what the hell?! My jaw fell slack. Louis was sitting at the judge's table! Well, I guess he was the president of the Drama club, so he got to be the judge.
Cher Lloyd, the president of the Theatrics Performances club- the club that dealt with all the singing stuff- was sitting beside Louis, and beside her, was the principal of Woodridge High, Jenna Hanson.
"I'm not late, right?" I heard a silky voice behind me.
"Zayn!" I tackled him in a hug, my nerves instantly disappearing. He still smelled, and he was sweaty.
"Ew, go take a shower," I commented playfully, but didn't let him go.
"Nah, I think I'm good," Zayn grinned, keeping his arms tightly wrapped around me.
"So, how did you get out? I mean, the game must still be going on, right?" I asked, frowning a bit.
Zayn rolled his eyes. "Of course it is. Coach Shay made me sit out, 'cos my head wasn't in the game."
"Where was your head then?"
"It was here, concentrated on a certain green eyed lad," Zayn answered cheekily. "And now, unlike me, you have to keep your head in the game."

"Oh," I murmured, blushing. "Right. Thanks Zayn. Do you think-"
"Yes, you can do it. I know you can," he told me firmly.
"Harry Styles?" I heard Cher call my name, and I gulped.
"Go on, best of luck," Zayn pecked my cheek.
"Alright. And remember, when I'll be singing, I'll be imagining that I'm with you," I told him cheekily, walking past the curtains and onto the stage.
"Uh, hi," I spoke into the mic I was given.
"Harry Styles? I never pinned you as the singing type," Ms. Hanson remarked, eyebrow raised.
"Um, yeah. I'm mostly the studying type. But I do like to sing a bit."
"Let's hear you sing then," Cher signalled me to start. Louis just shot me a cheeky grin, living me a discreet thumbs up.
I took a deep breath and keeping my nerves at bay, started to sing.
Isn't she lovely, isn't she wonderful
Isn't she precious, less than one minute old
I never thought through love we'd be
Making one as lovely as she
But isn't she lovely made from love
I finished and looked up, to see Louis grinning widely, Cher smiling, and Ms. Hanson's face was expressionless. I gazed out to the rest of the audience, and most of them were wearing shocked expressions.
I smirked lightly. Bet they weren't expecting that the shy, gay guy could actually stand on a stage and sing.
"Thank you, Harry," Cher smiled, and I thanked them all and walked off the stage, to the back row where I spotted my friends. I caught sight of Zayn, who was blushing like mad. I guess he remembered what I'd said to him before I went onstage. About the song. I snickered.
"How was I?" I asked when I approached my friends, except Louis who was at the judge's table, and including Liam, who must've arrived just now. They all tackled me in a group hug.
"You were amazing, Haz!" Niall crowed.
"Yep, I told you so! You did great!" Dani boasted.
"You were awesome, love," Zayn told me softly, pulling me close to him possessively after Ni and Dani had hugged me.
"Louis will tell us if you made it, and I'm sure you did," Liam told me, and I smiled at him.
I sure hope so. Now I'm really looking forward to this competition.

Blood & Noodles
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] As they always have, humanity hunts the gods roaming the world, craving the supernatural power that flows within their veins. Even a drop is zealously guarded, passed from master to student through the ages. It is with this stolen power that the Blooded - those with divine blood coursing through them - grasp beyond mortality and achieve prestige, power, and greatness. Yet, for every fraction of power gained, thousands perish, slain by the gods' supernatural prowess. But everything is beginning to change. Eight years ago, for the first time in human memory, a god was felled. Part-time chef and full-time nuisance Orvi wants nothing to do with gods. Living in a derelict city, his only concerns are ensuring his adopted family's restaurant is prosperous and how to best beat the neighbourhood boys in a fight. If he's lucky, he might even snag a date with the farmer's daughter at the market. But even though he cares nothing for the gods or their blood, the world won't leave him alone forever. Because to reach godhood, one must first leave their humanity behind. *** The first arc of Blood & Noodles follows the adolescent Orvi as he attempts to navigate his rapidly changing home and - by his own definition - protect his family. The story is told almost entirely in the first-person, from the perspective of a teenager who isn't always the sharpest tool in the shed. There are tragic elements, especially in the current arc. It's character-focused and driven, though the protagonist's shenanigans are backdropped by a world operating independently from him. Orvi's a generally light-hearted character, and though the story veers into darker territory, I also want it to be able to make readers smile. Action sequences, despite the fantastical elements, are meant to be grounded and clearly-conveyed; Orvi is a brawler, not a warrior. I'm trying to write a story that's enjoyable to read and flows nicely, mainly because it's more fun to write. I'm also trying to improve my writing, so any feedback, whether positive or negative, is welcome!
