《Vampire Midas AU》4 - Keeping Secrets

In the morning...
Another warm day rolls over the island, and Midas was already awake. Since Jones was still asleep on the couch, he decided to make him breakfast. He made something he knew the blond would like;
A bacon and egg sandwich with crusty bread. Just the way he likes it.
As he cracks the eggs into the pan and puts the shells to the side his mind trails back to the adventure the two of them had last night. The amount of fun they had.
He really enjoyed it, as did Jones.
It was strange.
Midas usually wasn't the one for those kind of activities. Plus, even when he was around Jones before the Zero Point was sealed away, he had trouble coming to terms with the fact of 'Oh shit. I have feelings for this man'.
It was only after being bitten that his mentality and behaviour had changed. He was more energetic, youthful and... very, very lustful.
He still wasn't sure if it was right of him to do that to Jones last night. It could've just been his lustful nature from his vampirism escaping...
But it also could've been him, not under any influences, simply desperate and hungry for Jones' love. Maybe he was getting obsessive, wanting him all to himself?
"Maybe I should tell him..." Midas mutters quietly. He immediately shakes his head, disliking the idea. "No. It's probably best he doesn't know. He'd be disgusted with me. Plus I did almost threaten to bite him when I wasn't in control of my bloodlust."
Grabbing a spatula Midas sighs as he places the cooked egg and bacon rashes in the crusty bread with spread already on the slices, putting one slice on top of the other before cutting it in half with a knife.
"Jonesy?"
Plate in hand, as well as a bowl of cereal for himself, Midas sits down on the couch near Jones' feet. He places the food down on the coffee table, shaking his shoulder gently.
"Jonesy~." He snickers lightly. "Wakey wakey..."
He stirs in his sleep, eventually stretching his arms and opening his eyes. And the first thing he responds to Midas with is;
"You forgot the eggs and bakey at the end of the rhyme silly."
"Hmph. That's where you're wrong dear. It's right here."
Midas passes him the plate as Jones sits up, rubbing his eyes.
"Surprise! I was awake before you so I made you breakfast."
"Aww. You didn't need to do that..." Jones smiles happily. "But thank you!"
The blond digs into his breakfast, while Midas eats his cereal beside him. They eat in silence, pondering their own separate thoughts, for a few minutes. It's Midas who breaks the tension.
"Um... Jones..?"
"Yeah?"
"I...I wanted to apologize if I made you feel uncomfortable last night during..." Midas pauses, blushing. "... well, you know what I mean..."
"Why?"
"Because, well... I'm normally not that... lustful." Midas explains. "I feel like I drove you too far...I forced you to do that."
Jones sighs, giving him a sympathetic expression.
"Hey, don't feel bad. You hadn't done it before. It's something new to you." He reassures him.
"But still! I-I felt like I was simply taking advantage of you. Am I THAT desperate for love that I decided to do that to you at 2 in the morning?!"
Jones jumps, startled by Midas' sudden outburst. He couldn't understand why he was so upset. He even said himself how much fun it was.

So why was Midas so worried he made him uncomfortable now? Literal hours after it happened.
"Midas? Are you... feeling alright?"
Jones puts his hand on Midas' shoulder. He flinches slightly, picking up the bowl of cereal again.
"If I'm being completely honest John...I haven't felt alright for the past couple of weeks."
The blond didn't feel comfortable with that answer. Midas seemed distressed about something, and it wasn't what happened between them last night. However, Jules shows up in the living room, slightly sleep deprived and walks over to them.
"Hello boys...have fun waking me up with your constant moaning last night?"
Midas and Jones blush in unison, very embarrassed.
"Ah. You...heard us?" Midas hums, clearing his throat.
"Jeez, only been together two weeks and already your-"
"Alright Jules we get it! Haha." Jones grins awkwardly, shushing her.
Midas sighs, continuing to eat his breakfast. That immense guilt he had prior to his and Jones' fun was returning. If he was struggling to keep himself in control outside of drinking other people blood, Jones and Jules may eventually find out the truth.
And he didn't want that.
----------------
Many months later...
Approximately 3 months had gone by, and Midas' decent into vampirism was only getting worse. It wasn't so bad before since he only had the fangs to hide, but now it was getting out of hand.
His skin was going a more pale sickly colour, more pale than he already was, and his ears were slightly pointed, a bit like an elf. Bizarrely though, the others hadn't noticed yet. But he knew it was only a matter of time.
In other events, a gigantic alien Mothership had appeared over the island, and the Imagined Order had returned along with Jones' old boss, Doctor Slone.
More problems for him to stress over. Though personally, he found some enjoyment in the I.O guards' new fear of him as ever since they arrived, satisfying his bloodlust was much easier since he had no problems with killing the guards.
......
It was roughly 9:57 in the evening on the night Midas' bloodlusting instincts would come back to take over again. He was periodically checking his watch, sat near the bridge leading out of Pleasant Park. He was wearing the hoodie and gloves again, but it wasn't over his head for now.
Midas was relieved to be alone at least for a few minutes. At least...he thought he was alone...
"2... 2 more minutes..." He breathes, hugging his arms.
Why was he afraid? Being like this for 3 months Midas should've been used to this song and dance by now. But he wasn't.
Still paralyzed with fear that Jones, Jules or anyone else he cared about was going to get killed by his actions.
"T-Try to stay calm Midas. Not long now..."
"Not long until what?"
Covering his mouth Midas turns to his left and sees Jones standing there wearing what looked like a cow onesie. He grips onto the hood and throws it over his head, covering his ears.
"Jones?! What are you doing out here? It's late! And you shouldn't be out and about when I.O is after you."
The blond approaches his boyfriend and sits down beside him. Midas shuffles away slightly.
"I could say the same for you."
He pauses, putting his hands together.
"Midas, are you alright?"
"Of course. I'd tell you if I wasn't alright."
"Really?"
"Mhm."
"Then why aren't you saying anything to me?"
Midas felt as though he was stabbed through the heart with that broken question being uttered from Jones' mouth. He remains silent.

"Something's clearly been bugging you for the past few months. And you're not opening up to anyone." Jones sighs sadly, looking over at Midas and taking ahold of his hand. "But if you just tell me what's wrong, maybe I can help you somehow. No matter what that problem is."
Midas ponders the thought.
Jones was growing increasingly close to the truth and he had two choices;
Tell the truth and potentially loose Jones' love.
Or try one last ditch attempt to lie his way out of the situation.
Both sounded bad either way.
"Jones, I-"
"Midas! John Jones! Hands in the air!"
Both men look up and discover 3 I.O guards pointing their rifles at them. Being the coward he was, Jones immediately does as he's told and surrenders. They get up on their feet, Midas sticking close to him.
"John Jones, you're under arrest for betraying the order and conspiring with the Seven and Midas."
"As for you Midas, it's about time we finally ended things with you."
The mastermind glares at the guards, ready to fight. Unfortunately, that oh so familiar feeling washes over him yet again. His heart pounds in his ears as he clenches his teeth from the sudden overwhelming urges consuming his mind.
"... mmm...A-Ahh.."
Clutching his head he falls against Jones who barely manages to catch him. He, along with the guards, was immediately alarmed by the sudden moan of discomfort coming from Midas.
"What's up with him?" A guard questions the blond.
"I don't know. Stay out of it." He replies, turning back to his boyfriend.
"Midas?! What's wrong? Are you alright?"
He can't hear Jones over the sound of his own heartbeat. His head hurt like hell and he was already drooling over the thought of blood filling his mouth again. The hood slips off his head.
"..get..get away..."
"W-What?"
"I said...get away!! Please!!"
Jones' eyes widen when he gets a closer look at Midas' face. His golden eye had gone a crimson red and he noticed the fangs in his mouth. He also took note of his ears being slightly pointed. The blond quickly put it all together;
There wasn't a random vampire going around killing people.
Midas WAS that vampire.
Go on~
"No no no, shut up-"
Do it~
"Argh-!"
Get him first.
"Midas!"
You know you want to~
"A-Ahh! Go Jones! Run away!"
Midas pushes Jones away from him, knocking him onto the ground and turns to the guards, already lacking control over himself. They begin backing away slightly but Midas, practically starving for blood, leaps towards them.
Jones covers his eyes as the sound of the guards' pained yells fill the air. So many questions were going through his mind that he wanted answers to.
"What happened? How long has he been hiding this?"
When he uncovers his eyes he finds Midas with his fangs deeply embedded in a dead guard's neck, drinking his blood. He could hear his groans of satisfaction, relishing the blood going down his throat.
Another guard was lying around, already dried clean. The 3rd one must've gotten away. Jones leans a little closer, taking the hood of his onesie off.
"Midas? Can you hear me?"
He glares at Jones, hissing at him with his bloodstained mouth. But his expression somewhat softens a little, looking at him as he continues drinking the warm red liquid.
"Oh Midas... what happened to you..?"
Midas doesn't say a word. Jones, as much as a coward he usually is, wasn't afraid of him and reaches out his hand. He was trying to see if he could break Midas out of it.
"Just...try to calm down a little."
As twisted as he was at the moment, Midas somehow gains back control over himself long enough to lean down and whisper into his ear.
"W-Wait for me here... I'll explain everything..."
"Wait for you? H-How long will you be?"
Flinching, Midas is quick with his answer.
"A-Ahh- ...it...it depends..."
And then backs away from Jones, running off and putting the hood over his head before he looses control over himself again.
There was no point in trying to hiding it from Jones anymore. He had let his secret escape because he failed to resist his instincts and run away.
--------------
3 hours later...
Jones did as he was told, patiently waiting for the mastermind to return. It was boring, not knowing when exactly he'd be back, but he wanted answers.
A noise from behind alerts him and he turns around.
Midas was there on his hands and knees, breathing heavily. Jones goes over to him helping him sit up.
"You okay there?"
"Ugh... I think so.."
He sits up, rubbing his head. Blood was staining his mouth and hands. He had a very guilty expression on his face. Jones passes him a packet of wet wipes he went back and got.
"Here. I went and got these from the house. Thought you might need them."
Midas takes one, wiping his mouth and hands.
"Thanks dear."
Both of them sit in silence for a moment.
"So...care to explain what happened to you?" Jones asks, folding his arms and expecting a good explanation.
Midas hugs his arms, hesitant to say anything, but eventually gives in knowing he can't hide the truth from him anymore.
"Remember when we were taken to that reality filled with vampires?"
Jones nods.
"When we were attacked, I bumped into one while looking for you. They cornered me and bit me on the left side of my neck."
Midas pulls Jones closer to him, letting him take a look. Clear as day, he could see a dried up bite mark on his neck.
"I thought I could cover it up, since at the time I only had these to hide." Midas goes on, pointing at the bloodstained fangs in his mouth. "But now it's getting worse. It's coming to the point that hiding it from you and Jules is nearly impossible."
Jones could see what he meant, looking at his sickly pale skin and his ears.
"That's why you've been avoiding us..."
Midas hums, resting his chin on his arms with his fangs' tips slightly poking out his mouth.
"Believe me John you have no idea how hard it is trying to resist biting you." Midas mutters, flinching. "This curse torments me, telling me how good your blood probably tastes..."
Jones gulps, looking over at him. His golden iris had gained a slight redness to it again.
"Uh, Midas? You good?"
Go on.
"I-I..."
One bite won't hurt.
Midas grunts, shaking away the urge. His eye returns to just gold.
"I'll... I'll be okay."
Tension lingers between them again.
"Midas...why didn't you tell us? Tell ME?"
He doesn't respond. Jones sighs sadly, covering his face.
"It's because this is all my fault, isn't it?"
Midas raises his head, looking at Jones.
"W-What? No, no. It's my fault for not looking where I was going-"
"Stop trying to defend me Midas. If it wasn't for me fucking up the coordinates on my rift device we wouldn't have been taken there in the first place." Jones interrupts him. "Face it. It's my fault you were turned into one."
Jones sighs sadly, but suddenly finds Midas' arms wrapped around him in a comforting embrace.
"I didn't want to tell you because I was afraid of losing you..." He reveals. "I was scared that if I told you the truth, you'd be utterly disgusted by my actions...and leave me..."
A few tears fall down Midas' face, and Jones immediately feels awful for him. He was trying to keep him safe, afraid that if he found out he'd be rejected by the only one he felt a romantic interest in.
"Why would I leave you? Even if you're an immortal vampire I still want to be with you."
Jones reassures Midas with that fact by pressing his lips against his own.
"I love you after all. Just promise you'll stop hiding stuff from me."
Those words were just what Midas needed to hear.
"I'll try..." He whispers. "And thank you..."
He presses his lips against Jones' again, needing his company more than ever. The blond suddenly gets curious. Sneakily slipping his tongue inside Midas' mouth he runs it along his upper teeth.
They part briefly.
"What are you doing?" Midas chuckles softly.
"I, uh... wanted to feel your teeth?" Jones grins awkwardly. "God that sounds stupid, haha."
"Oh, I see." Midas hums. "Well, as long as you're careful I suppose it couldn't hurt."
They continue the kiss, Jones slipping his tongue back in and feeling them. It slides under the tips of his fangs, hitting them ever so slightly. And yet it still hurts a little.
"Ow. That's... really sharp, haha."
"Well what else did you expect dear?"
Midas gives him a smile, a genuinely happy one. But it fades slightly as his mind trails elsewhere.
"Midas?"
"..Jones, as much as I'm happy you're accepting me like this...I don't want anyone else finding out about it..."
"But, what about Jules-"
Midas looks him in the eyes with his single gold one. Jones flinches, but decides not to pry on about it.
"Let's just keep this between the two of us... alright dear?"
"...got it."
